I'm having the exact same problem with my 9700pro, it used to work fine, but after installing my watercooling it started to give me purple and green vertical stripes (even in DOS already) it can't be my PSU, it's a 400W Zalman.
sometimes it goes away, I figured it would be magnetic fields due to my pump but thats not it. cooling can't be the problem, my Artic VGA Silencer works normally and there are copper ramsinks on the vidcard.
