Bad flash - 2005/03/01 21:23 I am new here and have a big problem... I just ruined my new 6600GT that I got back from RMA yesterday. Sad... I was so excited about the card, so I decided to flash the BIOS to a better one. The flash failed, even though the firmware was supposedly correct. So now I have a non-functioning card. Is there any way that I can fix this without RMAing it again. I am crying because I know how much my father will yell at me like he did last time. Is there anything I can do?

Re:Bad flash - 2005/03/01 22:00 Well we can maybe help you. So what we need to know is which brand you have and if it is an AGP or a PCIe card? And what did you exactly do? What did you try as flash and why...

Re:Bad flash - 2005/03/01 22:16 I explained why I flashed, just being overzealous. It is the XFX 6600GT AGP. I tried flashing to this BIOS...
XFX 6600GT 128MB - Rev 03

It was a newer version than my old one. I made an emergency flash disk, but it seems that when the card is in, the computer doesn't access the floppy drive, as if it is not even POST'ing. If it helps, I also posted on OCC...
Please Help!

Re:Bad flash - 2005/03/03 01:08 Hmm if you have an old PCI card you can try to boot with both cards but using the PCI card for your monitor. If it works, you should be able to simply flash back to your old BIOS. If nothing happens, make sure that your card is placed correctly in the AGP (or PCI-Express) Slot. And also check the additional power connector on the Card.

Well I really hope you'll get your card to work again.

Re:Bad flash - 2005/03/03 01:58 How do I specify in nvflash to flash the AGP card and not the PCI card?

Re:Bad flash - 2005/03/03 10:45 In your mainboard BIOS did you set to boot from Floppy? Cause then it should work. When you have a PCI VGA card then just put that one in yoru system and bootup. And you can use the same nvflash commands normally.

Re:Bad flash - 2005/03/08 13:03 Okay. So I fixed the BIOS. I reflashed to the Rev.02 BIOS here. Now I get much worse performance, as in 3000 less points on 3DMark03. What could be causing this and what is a remedy?

Re:Bad flash - 2005/03/08 19:30 Well did you try the Rev.01 as well? What does that give? And didn't you make a backup before flashing your card?

Re:Bad flash - 2005/03/09 01:35 i id try all of the bioses i could find. None of them helped. Do you think that maybe i damaged the card itself? It is strange though, if that happened, that it works normally, just slow.

Re:Bad flash - 2005/03/09 08:08 And you tried with the Original BIOS on the card? Cause that should give you the same results as before... Did anything else change?
