VGABios works just fine at pre-testing bios' for me (on a 6800 PCIe series card, I assume it'd be fine for 6600 AGP/PCIe as well), boot up in dos, enter the command and if the screen just seems to return to normal that means the bios is fine. To make sure this just wasn't a fluke, I tried many different bios and even bios' for different cards. The result is that most 6800 bios' I tried returned me to a normal screen,but while for instance I used a 6800 AGP or 6600 PCIe Bios the screen showed a flashing checkered pattern. So my guess is that vgabios works fine for bios testing on atleast 6800 cards. Were you booted up in DOS when you tried it?
