Leadtek 6800 - 2005/01/30 02:27 I have a Leadtek 6800 (A400) and it runs great. However, I leave my computer on 24 hours a day for months at a time, but with upgrading to the 6800, I can't sleep as it is too loud. I realize the fan is probably needed when the GPU is stressed (while I'm playing Doom 3), but is it possible to lower the fan speed or turn it off completely when it is not needed? This is a serious problem, I'm considering selling the video card and buying something else if I can't get it to run quieter when idle.

Thanks for your help!

Re:Leadtek 6800 - 2005/01/30 04:43 You could upgrade the heatsink/fan to an Arctic Silencer NV5.

Re:Leadtek 6800 - 2005/01/30 05:54 Download and install the Gainward ExperTool v3.20 (its in the download section and its free), it has fan control for 2D and 3D modes. Range is 50% fan speed to 100% fan speed for each mode.

Re:Leadtek 6800 - 2005/01/30 09:38 ThugsRook, I use Linux (I should have said that in my initial post, sorry), so I'm not so sure that's going to work out...

MiDKnYtE, I wasn't aware there were replacement fans out for the 6800's already, very nice. However, I have read a review that putting it on Leadtek's require splicing the fan power wires...
I'll check it out though, thanks.

Re:Leadtek 6800 - 2005/01/30 16:50 Yeah indeed ExperTool should do it, but for Linux this isn't working as it is a Windows application. And well I don't know such a tool for Linux... It might exist though.

You might still wanna check the Arctic Cooling...
