Re:Dell GeForce GT 550M and got some BIOS voltage questions? - 2011/12/23 02:17 I did both and compared both files. They are identical.

Re:Dell GeForce GT 550M and got some BIOS voltage questions? - 2011/12/23 02:20 Here is my Dell folder where all files are pasted (including the entire WinFlash directory in Temp): From now on, I'll put any necessary files in here!

Re:Dell GeForce GT 550M and got some BIOS voltage questions? - 2011/12/23 03:36 Ok
Put screen on the forum with GPU-Z with the number of vbios.

Re:Dell GeForce GT 550M and got some BIOS voltage questions? - 2011/12/23 04:30 Here it is!

I'm currently running A14 (the same BIOS number) but the Dell flash reports that Dell's A14 is newer than my existing A14.

Should I flash Dell's (newer) A14 BIOS first?

Re:Dell GeForce GT 550M and got some BIOS voltage questions? - 2011/12/26 23:51 I used Universal BIOS Extractor 2.0 to dump my BIOS -- it was only 2MB.

Then I used PhoenixDell/EFI SLIC Mod 1.90 on the ROM. I just loaded it and the program started analyzing and dumping the file by itself.

Then I used XSearch on the contents of the DUMP folder created by the mod tool. I searched all files for contents containing the hex word NVIDIA (which in hex is 4e5649444941). I got 9 files, one of which must be the vbios.

I would like the next available voltage unlocked (0.912). Thanks!

PS: I still don't know how to put the modified vbios back into the BIOS and reflash.

Re:Dell GeForce GT 550M and got some BIOS voltage questions? - 2011/12/27 00:40 I think this is the exact module. I figured it out by searching for my VBIOS version (via GPU-Z) in the previous search results. This is the only file that matched.

Voltage has been raised to 0.9125v.

Ask Pasacio
how he reinserted the vbios how to flash you have here

You cannot use phlash16.exe with UEFI. You need Phoenix UEFI flash tool for Phoenix UEFI BIOS. You can skip BIOS version check like this in Dos :-
Code:

pflash.exe /sv XXXXX.ROM or what ever exctention you have like XXXXX.wph
the XXXXX are the name of the bios file

here is a link to the win flash ver
http://www.sendspace.com/file/nn4y5z

If you're using WinFlash, create PFLASH.RSP file in WinFlash folder & the file should contain this:-
Code:

-sa

and also to make a rsp file just use text docu name it to PHLASH then change the extencion from txt to RSP

Re:Dell GeForce GT 550M and got some BIOS voltage questions? - 2011/12/30 07:43 Perfect! I imagine this will work for almost anybody. Gave me about 200MHz more max clock, and increased stability at some of the higher levels. Good stuff.

So I reintegrated it by opening the universal extracted .rom with the PhoenixDell tool, clicked Advanced and allowed modification of all image files, hit Go, inserted the modded module in the DUMP folder prior to the start of the rebuilding. This modified, rebuilt ROM does not flash on its own with the UEFI (Dell or Torment-provided) flasher. The resulting rebuilt ROM then had to be integrated into the original WPH file, replacing the F33E367F-xxxx-xxxx module and reintegrating it again. Then the WinFlash/Dell tool can be used (even in GUI mode!) to flash the WPH file (you must select to browse all files, however, as WPH isn't recognized by default).

And there we go. Not too tough... I'm just curious how you guys manage to find the voltage in the nvidia module. What's the approximate offset? How do you analyze for available frequencies and mod the appropriate hex address? Heuristics?

Thanks quite a bit for this. Hope this helps others. Eagerly awaiting the next NiBiTor! Hopefully then people like me won't have to bother you all.

Re:Dell GeForce GT 550M and got some BIOS voltage questions? - 2011/12/30 08:10 For those who are interested in the results of these tweaks for the mobile GT 550M:

On the Kombustor 2.2.2 holiday test, my scores went from P800 (id=30203 stock) to P1400 on the button (id=30202) at about 875MHz/1135MHz. 75% performance increase isn't too shabby -- though more extensive performance/burn-in testing is required. In any event, it's all possible thanks to you guys (and a bit of persistence).

People with Dell XPS 17 lappies that shipped with the 550M and the A14 BIOS, feel free to slip this in and try this out as I described throughout the thread. It's a cool little project that results in significantly better framerates.

Peace,
Gabe
