Radeon HD 6870 with GeForce 8800 GT for physics rendering? - 2011/03/30 16:32 I read some where you can run the Radeon HD 6870 as the primary or main graphic card then run the GeForce 8800 GT for physics processing. Is this possible and what are the steps to do so? I have this GeForce 8800 GT laying around and if I can put it to use then I will. Thanks for any help.

Re:Radeon HD 6870 with GeForce 8800 GT for physics rendering? - 2011/03/30 17:07 Mmm, I think I saw this before and that was using a Radeon HD 3850 with a GeForce 9600 GT for the physics action, and that worked just like that. The person did run PhysX FluidMark benchmarks which showed a major increase when the person added the GeForce 9600 GT which was actually handling the PhysX processing.

Re:Radeon HD 6870 with GeForce 8800 GT for physics rendering? - 2011/03/30 20:31 Hmmmm I have them installed but the NVIDIA control panel isn't showing the 3D settings tab for physics. As a matter of fact its showing none of the tabs, just info about the card. All drivers updated too.

Okay, thanks for the update. I have done some more searching around and found information that is contradicting somehow. First that it worked as mentioned before, but also that it seems NVIDIA has disabled the function through their newer drivers. But I also found that there would be a way to use driver with a PhysX modding of some kind which did work for some. Can you though check if GPU-Z shows the PhysX as enabled, so ticked? As some say that would say it will be okay.

Re:Radeon HD 6870 with GeForce 8800 GT for physics rendering? - 2011/03/30 21:12 Here is a picture of what I see. I hope I did the picture right as not really sure on size. I will fix it if its to large. Well picture didn't work okay, but in the Radeon HD 6870 the OpenCL, PhysX and Direct Compute 5.0 boxes are marked. For the GeForce 8800 GT the OpenCL, PhysX and Direct Compute 4.0 are checked.

Re:Radeon HD 6870 with GeForce 8800 GT for physics rendering? - 2011/03/30 21:47 Thanks, so on the GeForce 8800 GT the PhysX box is ticked and some say that this is sufficient. Did you run some benchmarks on PhysX performance already to see if you have a difference in scores between with or without the GeForce 8800 GT installed?

Re:Radeon HD 6870 with GeForce 8800 GT for physics rendering? - 2011/03/30 22:04 On other websites they have tested this and works fine, and the Vantage CPU score can also increase as physics calculations are handle by GPU instead. Some are posting scores with Crossfire and a physics card only on Windows XP or Windows 7 though as this doesn't work in Windows Vista.
