GeForce 8800 GTX but my 3D display adapter not recognized? - 2011/02/19 21:50 Hello everyone, it has been awhile since I have posted. Okay now to the problem and its a problem, I have an EVGA GeForce 8800 GTX and an Antec 500W power supply. Now the video card is not recognized by Windows XP, it reads it as 3D display adapter when I try to install the drivers, be it through Windows or manually it can't find the card or tells me it is not the correct driver for the hardware.

I installed hardware info software which can see the card and reads it correctly. So wy doesn't Windows do the same? Well I know its a corrupted BIOS on the card and as such how do I reflash the BIOS when the card is not recognized in a Windows environment?

Re:GeForce 8800 GTX but my 3D display adapter not recognized? - 2011/02/20 17:52 Okay I messed around with NiBiTor and I keep getting this error message and I dont know what it means. It is always saying error on data position or length out of data bounds. But what does that mean really or what is going wrong?

Mmm, since the card is not getting recognized there is certainly something wrong with the BIOS and that means that if you look at that most likely wrong BIOS with NiBiTor that it would be rather strange if it wouldn't give an error. So what I would suggest is that you just take a good GeForce 8800 GTX which you can find on our downloads section, and that you make a real bootable Ms-Dos media with nvFlash and use that to boot your system from and flash the BIOS onto this corrupted graphics card.

Re:GeForce 8800 GTX but my 3D display adapter not recognized? - 2011/02/20 21:46 Yeah I plan on it, just waiting on a flash drive as I don't have a floppy. The question is will the card be recognized when I go to flash it in Ms-Dos. Where would I direct the flash to meaning device, the 3D display adapter or unknown device or will nvFlash read the ID string of the card and automatically direct the BIOS file to it?

Okay, I thought you had dome some flashing in the past but I might be mistaken. First of all Ms-Dos will recognize all hardware that is functional and requires no drivers, simply cause it is basic operating system. Since it Windows can see the card as a 3D display adapter that is already sufficient. Secondly to be sure you will be flashing the right device just use the listing command of nvFlash and you will know which device is which and you can use the index parameters to flash the according device.

nvFlash v5.xx Commands...
"nvflash --list" (Listing the different graphics devices)

Re:GeForce 8800 GTX but my 3D display adapter not recognized? - 2011/02/21 23:00 Ah, the graphics card is working. I'm going to tell you what I did but I'm not gonna go into pacifics. I put the card in the oven. Took it out and now it runs, post and everything. Specifications are there also.

Hehe, and that is what some call a miracle though only a few realize that this is a temporary solution as thanks to the oven trick indeed certain connections which didn't work any more as it should are now restored but also degraded. Now don't be surprised that it will fail again, so I just hope you didn't cook it too long or too high as the other components could easily start failing. But yeah, some did this trick just right and could enjoy their card again, but other did after a few weeks experience even worse issues and could just throw it in the trash. Hopefully you have some luck with it for a longer period.

Re:GeForce 8800 GTX but my 3D display adapter not recognized? - 2011/07/26 18:07 Excellent news, I am glad the card still works and the trick with the oven just worked like a charm. And I hope you can enjoy the card as long as you like, which is I guess till the next upgrade.
