Re:GeForce GTX 580 some easy overclock to 900MHz and more? - 2010/11/24 00:26 Thanks and sorry for my poor English, I am trying not to write as much as possible. Something went wrong with the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 580 modified version which you provided having the fan range between 30%-100%. I have started Furmark, the GPU temperature increased slowly up to 96°C and the fan speed up to 66%, then suddenly the fan speed jumped from 66% to 100% and sank down slowy to around 83%.

Re:GeForce GTX 580 some easy overclock to 900MHz and more? - 2010/11/24 08:21 Amazing, I didn't know a BIOS could raise the 85% fan speed limit or I would have requested max voltage right away. The problem with Linux is that you cannot use Windows to verify overclocks with 100% certainty. So the only way is to try BIOS files. Thanks for helping out, and that said I am requesting two extra BIOS tweaks. The first one being 797/4008MHz running at 1.138V with 40%-100% fan speed.

This BIOS will be very useful when NVIDIA releases support for overclocking in Linux as the upcoming driver update will not allow for persistent changes to either voltage, or fan speed. And secondly and at 910/4280MHz with same voltage and fan speed. Yeah, Linux was not able to run Unigine Heaven with the 910/4280MHz tweak you provided at only 1.125V.

Thanks for the update, and what about the other one with the fan speed range between 40%-100%? Just wondering cause there is temperature level involvement which will control the fan speed increase and that logic seems to be present in the BIOS but we haven't been able to figure it out. I am now assuming that lowering the minimum fan speed on the GeForce GTX 580 isn't something that should be done, but bringing the maximum up could help cool the card at higher overclocking. Thanks again!

Re:GeForce GTX 580 some easy overclock to 900MHz and more? - 2010/11/24 16:52 I have tested the other one with the fan speed range between 40%-100% now. It shows the same behavior with suddenly jumping up from 69% to 100% at 98°C. It depends on fan speed which causes the jump. I think that it's not necessary to lower the minimum fan speed. The overall noise of my computer is louder than the graphics card fan at 40% fan speed and the card is really quiet. For higher overlocking I will get a GPU only water cooler this week, so I hope we can finish our tests before I will get the cooler.

Sorry but your original BIOS being the SuperClocked edition is actually standard clocked at 797/4050MHz, so I didn't want to tune down the memory as that would mean underclocking you pre-overclocked version.

Thanks for your feedback, this is excellent and we have mixed feelings cause it is working but the ramping up to higher fan speed is not ideal due to the jump once it reaches a certain temperature. But hopefully we find something to offer some extra hidden tweaks for the temperature. If someone would know something more on this, please do share cause any information is more than welcome.

Re:GeForce GTX 580 some easy overclock to 900MHz and more? - 2010/11/25 19:21 Okay, I have got my water cooler today and now I need a fast BIOS really. So please do me a favor? Please modify the Gigabyte factory BIOS I have given to you 920/4500MHz with 1.138V for the 3D performance mode and no changes to the fan speed. I hope this will work stable, I have tested this settings which I have set up with Afterburner, but there is no long time test. Thanks a lot in advance.
