Re:NVIDIA BIOS Editor (NiBiTor) v5.8 software and give feedback? - 2010/10/21 16:12 First of all I used your hexeditor from NiBiTor to change values and windows calculator to convert hexadecimal to decimal. Now to the important thing, are the values that I found at 0x6620 and at 0xE508 position which seem to control the temperature when the fan starts to spin faster. So that should give you a pointer in the direction to look at, and perhaps unraffle the fan speed behavior further.

Original Default MSI BIOS Values...
- 0x6620 : 011A 0080 0000 0000
- 0xE508 : 0000 0100 0001 1A00

Original Updated MSI BIOS Values...
- 0x6620 : 01E7 FF80 0000 0000
- 0xE508 : 0000 0100 0001 E7FF

Original Gigabyte BIOS Values...
- 0x6620 : 0234 FF00 0000 0000
- 0xE508 : 0000 0100 0002 34FF

I don't know what the changes are between FF80 as used by MIS and FF00 as used by Gigabyte nor what those mean. I didn't check nor tried them. Now from my experience I only played with the value 01E7 and E7FF, which I actually changed to match the Gigabyte values. After that I restart my computer with the modified BIOS and ran Afterburner to look at the fan and used Furmark. I noticed that the fan was at 40% and startet at 55°C to rotate higher.

Then I played with the value 0234 which actually means 52°C and I raised these value and lowered it and looked what happend. But I don't understand why the fan begins at 55°C and not 52°C as calculated. So this might be different and is not the exact value for the degrees. For 60°C value I lowered it 0219 and for 50°C I raised it to 024A. If I raise the 0234 value the fan begins earlier and by lowering it the fan begins at higher temps.

With newer BIOS versions like the 70.04.1B.00.02 like for the GeForce GTX 460 Hawk the values where at another place. Meaning that they changed to 0x6630 and 0xE518. I hope this is understandable.

Thanks for these clarifications, we will check this out and see what we can do and with some luck add some extra tweaking into NiBiTor related to the fan speed for these new graphics cards. Thanks again for that, and if there are other things or other tweaks feasible do let us know.

Re:NVIDIA BIOS Editor (NiBiTor) v5.8 software and give feedback? - 2010/10/21 18:48 Thanks for the corrections. Have you already checked that out and can you share your experience? Perhaps you know more with those details I have provided? Cheers.

We have indeed checked this out and there is a bit more to it than what you detailed and the issue is that we are not entirely sure of all the values, as there is more than just those two in the end. It will need more testing, perhaps some extra persons who might know more about this to get some logic developed that would allow some more flexible fan tweaking. But we like this a lot about what you found, but before we can implement a new feature it has to be fully verified and confirmed.

Re:NVIDIA BIOS Editor (NiBiTor) v5.8 software and give feedback? - 2010/11/06 05:57 Can 5.8 adjust voltages on a gtx470?

Re:NVIDIA BIOS Editor (NiBiTor) v5.8 software and give feedback? - 2010/11/06 09:04 Of course, that is present since before the latest version. You just have to use the specific Fermi menu to change the clock domains for the different clock settings and there is a second option to tweak the different voltages.

It has been a while since I posted on the forums, though have been enjoying the NiBiTor software and can say that it works great to tweak my GeForce GTX 460. I have overclocked it for games and have it running at lower fan speed while I am just working in Windows. I also upped the voltage slightly just to reach some higher overclocking to gain some extra performance when I am playing games. And yes I do support this software, and would invite everyone who does use it to just ChipIn to keep this going. Great work!

Re:NVIDIA BIOS Editor (NiBiTor) v5.8 software and give feedback? - 2010/11/23 19:01 Hello, I am new on these forums, and I am looking for a tutorial while I only found an old one. Is there any other? My problem is that when I use NiBiTor v5.8 to open a GeForce GTX 460 BIOS and I don't see any values for the fan speed.

Euh that is just normal, as the current public version doesn't have that feature and we highlighted several times on our website already. The fan speed tweaking is a new feature that is available with the new exclusiver version only, which is available after a donation using the ChipIn button for the further development of the NiBiTor software.

Re:NVIDIA BIOS Editor (NiBiTor) v5.8 software and give feedback? - 2010/12/01 21:59 As a new version is released of NiBiTor, please make sure you are using the latest version and that you post your findings related to that version on the corresponding thread, thank you.
