Quadro FX2500M board recover after bad flash or just bricked? - 2010/03/16 05:28 Okay, it all started because I wanted a GeForce Go 7950 GTX and got a Quadro FX2500M graphics device. I tried to flash a GeForce Go 7950 GTX BIOS to it and gotten a black screen, blind flashed it, got it working again. Then I flashed it to a GeForce Go 7900 GTX which worked fine with that. Then I thought, why not find a GeForce Go 7950 GTX BIOS with lower voltage setting and flash that, what's the worse that can happen? Go blank again? Well, I flashed it ignoring the warnings about wrong board match and on next reboot, white screen that seems to get spots on it as time goes on.

The system boots, so I try to reflash but gotten two beeps, and also with nvFlash two beeps means it's not detecting the graphics card. I think I bricked it, but I read you can short some firmware pins. That's where I'm at right now. I'm just short of shelling out the $80 to have it hopefully repaired. I think the firmware chip needs to be reflashed or even replaced. I spotted a couple 8-pin like chips but not sure which one it is. I tried shorting pins 1 and 8 on the AT8850 and it just turns off, I tried pin 1 and 4 too. I don't want to fry this graphics card. Would you have any advice?

Re:Quadro FX2500M board recover after bad flash or just bricked? - 2010/03/16 07:06 Now I made a bootable flash drive and I'm not getting a no NVIDIA error but I'm getting this in the log file when using nvFlash v5.91 version. Warning firmware image PCI subsystem ID does not match adapter PCI subsystem ID. After which a second warning comes firmware image board ID does not match adapter board ID.

nvFlash v5.xx Adapter ID Details...
- Adapter PCI Device ID : 0297
- Firmware PCI Device ID : 029A
- Adapter PCI Subsystem ID : 1558.0571
- Firmware PCI Subsystem ID : 1028.019B
- Adapter Board ID : 7121
- Firmware Board ID : 7109

Re:Quadro FX2500M board recover after bad flash or just bricked? - 2010/03/16 07:13 Okay well, it is solved after six hours. I guess I had to listen to the double beep which means rejection. And I had to type several times yes to confirm to somehow get it flashed due to the various ID mismatches. The exact sequence was YES YES Y. If I heard two beeps, I knew it wasn't done right and I'd write the nvflash -4 -5 -6 xxx.rom again until I finished with only hearing a single beep.

Yes and that is just normal really when you try to flash when a lot of ID are different between the BIOS loaded and the actual adapter. That is why you should use the forced method but add also some extra parameters to just say that yes automatically if you just want to go ahead. This is only when you know what you are doing or when you want to recover from a bad flash to your working BIOS again.

nvFlash v5.xx Commands...
"nvflash -4 -5 -6 -y -A origbios.rom" (Automatic Forced Flashing)

Re:Quadro FX2500M board recover after bad flash or just bricked? - 2010/03/16 21:16 Okay, well the numbers are supposed to be the forced flash for nvFlash v5.+ software. I tried the other options you mentioned just for giggles, still same two beeps which I thought meant board not detected because I thought it wasn't prompting me to answer any questions. I even tried the old nvFlash v4.41 version. I guess when your flashing different board ID's it is not automated.

Re:Quadro FX2500M board recover after bad flash or just bricked? - 2010/03/16 21:20 I guess to verify, I could test it tonight, I'm going to do some more flashing and I will see if the command you have provided doesn't prompt me for anything. But I'm sure I tried it last night.

Could well be that you tried it, and you are getting in total three ID mismatches which is just nuts, typically you just get one and then I know for certain that my command does flash the card without prompting for anything and does actually reboot automatically the system when done, which is ideal for those who can't see anything as their screen is blank.

Re:Quadro FX2500M board recover after bad flash or just bricked? - 2010/03/17 03:17 Okay, I tried it while flashing between the GeForce Go 7900 GTX and the Quadro FX2500M BIOS and it asks for the different ID's in my case, not matter what I use as options as you have provided.
