BFG GeForce GTX 280 overclocked but will not let me flash it? - 2010/02/25 15:56 Hi, I have two BFG GeForce GTX 280 H²OC version and anyhow one has the clock at 680Mhz like it's suppose to and the other came with the wrong BIOS. Anyhow I let it go since 2008 while BFG said send it and they will fix anytime it has a life time warranty. I just decide to flash it myself last night using the BIOS off the other card and for some reason it won't let me. I made a bootable USB and only nvFlash v5.57 comes close to flashing it. Also see the below image to illustrate. Could you tell me why it's not flashing, also if you think it would be better just to let BFG handle it for warranty reasons.

When I would just go by this alone, knowing that the card is within warranty I woud just say, use the warranty and return the card to get it fixed by the manufacturer. Yes, you will need to miss it for some time but you will get a good one back that will have the right BIOS and clocks.

Since you did decide to see if you can't fix it yourself, we do feel like that not much can go wrong and if you can't get it fixed, you can still rely on the warranty and get it replaced. The only thing that is bothering me is the image, as that shows something strange about the current BIOS on the card. As that says that version unavailable and other strange values. So before you try anything you need to first provide us a view on the list of graphics devices.

nvFlash v5.xx Commands...
"nvflash --list" (Provide Listing of Graphics Devices)

Re:BFG GeForce GTX 280 overclocked but will not let me flash it? - 2010/02/25 21:26 What do you mean with before you try anything you need to first provide us a view on the list of graphics devices. How do I go about doing that? I backed up the current BIOS on the card just to see if I could to get the card to flash at all and it won't even retake it's own BIOS?

Re:BFG GeForce GTX 280 overclocked but will not let me flash it? - 2010/02/25 21:31 Euh what do you see at the bottom of my previous post? Use nvFlash and execute the command provided and give the output and we will know what and how the devices are before we draw any conclusions.

Re:BFG GeForce GTX 280 overclocked but will not let me flash it? - 2010/02/25 22:06 And here is the backup of the wrong BIOS they put on the card,
File Attachment:
File name: BACKUP-789a226dcec8f51d3b7ef0d6701ac757.rar
File size:284 bytes

Re:BFG GeForce GTX 280 overclocked but will not let me flash it? - 2010/02/25 22:13 Sorry but can you do it again as I forgot that it was with two minus signs the listing command, as it should jut give a small output. So can you do it again, I updated the command provided earlier.

Re:BFG GeForce GTX 280 overclocked but will not let me flash it? - 2010/02/25 22:33 I wonder what would happen if I tried to flash both at the same time, because I took the correct one out before I tried to flash thinking if anything did go wrong I would at least have one.

nvFlash Graphics Device Listing...
<0> BR04 (05B1h) (10DE,05B1,0000,0000)

Re:BFG GeForce GTX 280 overclocked but will not let me flash it? - 2010/02/26 19:56 Euh, that is just not normal at all. Your graphics device listing only shows a BR04 device which is just an SLI bridge. So I don't get what your computer is doing but it is acting up. Did you have both graphics cards in the system? Cause the way it is shown now, there is no graphics device at all present in your system. Also can you try an older version of nvFlash?

Re:BFG GeForce GTX 280 overclocked but will not let me flash it? - 2010/02/26 23:04 I have tried nvFlash v5.38 through v5.72 and only one that even comes close to flashing and that is the latter one. I have provided all feedback by using that version as only that one made it possible.

Re:BFG GeForce GTX 280 overclocked but will not let me flash it? - 2010/02/26 23:36 Then I would simply say one thing, as I have already flashed some GeForce GTX 280's with the latest versions and if only that specific version is showing something there is more wrong with your card than meets the eye and you won't be able to fix in, unless you try the tweezer method but that one you only do when you ran out of warranty. So just take the offer, return it in warranty and get a new one that works as it should.
