ASUS Radeon AX1650 PRO and Windows 7 not working fine? - 2010/02/16 12:39Hello friends, for my posting at first a great hello. Okay, this is my problem, a friend gave my an ASUS graphics card for testing Windows 7 installation. In fact, I was installing Windows 7 and all okay but finished with a blue screen, impossible to continue setup. So as I read in some forums the problem is that this card doesn't accept some ATI drivers. What can I do, should I flash the BIOS of this card and which one? Maybe the Sapphire 512MB version in the downloads section? Or any other way to install Windows 7 somehow?

Re:ASUS Radeon AX1650 PRO and Windows 7 not working fine? - 2010/02/16 16:36Sorry but why do you think just like that to flash the BIOS and that all problems will just go away? I am sorry but that doesn't work like that. If there is an issue with that card, it will be with the full series and that means flashing a BIOS from another one won't make any difference. The fix should be done through the drivers, and that is where ATI should pick up the work and just fix the drivers, so that Windows 7 will work with this graphics card.

Re:ASUS Radeon AX1650 PRO and Windows 7 not working fine? - 2010/02/16 17:10Thanks, maybe I will try to give more details. After mounting the Radeon AX1650 in my computer I did boot my Windows XP partition, installed original drivers from CD and all is going pretty good. Later on a second primary partition I was installing a clean Windows 7 and I suppose the setup has trying to install unmodified ATI drivers and setup crashes with blue screen. I read on some forums that ASUS has modified the BIOS so that the card only accepts ASUS drivers and no officiel ATI drivers.

Re:ASUS Radeon AX1650 PRO and Windows 7 not working fine? - 2010/02/16 20:56Sorry but I don't believe that part about ASUS as that would really be negative only to themselves as ATI releases the drivers which should work on all their cards. And frankly modifying the BIOS as such would give them a lot of problems and that would mean that we would have had many visitors complaining about that, which is not case. Secondly, it would also mean a lot of work to get that actually done, if even feasible. Which ATI drivers did you try?

Re:ASUS Radeon AX1650 PRO and Windows 7 not working fine? - 2010/02/16 21:18Which ATI drivers? Oh, sorry don't know. I was trying to install Windows 7 and at the end when display driver where configured the setup crashes, blue screen and computer rebooted many times. As I said on my Windows XP there is no problem, and used the drivers supplied by ASUS. Any way to use Windows Vista driver CD while installing Windows 7 operating system? Thanks.

Re:ASUS Radeon AX1650 PRO and Windows 7 not working fine? - 2010/02/16 21:24Well it is very simple in this case, it works in Window XP and that is not the issue and you used the ASUS drivers, but if you would download the latest ATI drivers that will work just fine as well. And during your installation of Windows 7 the only drivers that are used are those available within the installation and those might have an issue, do the only one to blame is Microsoft and noboldy else. What I would do is see what it is gives with a different graphics card and once Windows 7 is fully installed and running, change it back to the Radoen AX1650 and see what that gives.

Re:ASUS Radeon AX1650 PRO and Windows 7 not working fine? - 2010/02/17 07:22Okay, I will try it. I will replace the Radeon AX1650 PRO with my older GeForce Ti 4200 and after installing Windows 7 replace it again with the Radeon AX1650, and also try with the original ASUS Vista drivers. I will post the results, have a nice day.

Indeed keep us posted, though on the last part about the drivers, I wouldn't do that as you mention but just go and download the latest drives from the ATI website and use those. You have since the start complained that the ATI drivers don't work but you have not yet used them at all, cause the drivers included in Windows 7 aren't as such the same as the drivers that ATI does release on a monthly basis.

Re:ASUS Radeon AX1650 PRO and Windows 7 not working fine? - 2010/02/17 12:29Okay, good thinking to get the latest drivers already and those are indeed the Catalyst 9.11 drivers for the Radeon X1650 series, which are listed as being for Windows Vista but will also work with Windows 7 operating system.
