GeForce 9600 GT but crashing PC during games any solution? - 2010/02/08 00:05 I have read some posts about this issue, and have used RivaTuner to increase the fan speed, added aditional cooling fans and my latest addition was a new power supply. I have opted for a Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 500W, change drivers, reinstalled the operating system and still the issue while in games or in certain applications. My processor temps are in normal range and also the temps from the video card remains in limits, like 65°C while in games. Now I don't understand the BIOS flashing thing and I would not like to experiment as I don't have another card. Also the technical support from XFX takes forever to reply. Do you have any ideas or anything that I could do to solve this?

Re:GeForce 9600 GT but crashing PC during games any solution? - 2010/02/08 13:50 As always, we need to know some history cause you come with a problem but never with details on how it gotten that far. So can you tell us if the card has always been doing that or has it started since some weeks but was working before that just fine? If it has always done that you should have just returned it immediately and gotten a replacement. If it now starts doing that, then first did you change something in your system?

www.Re:GeForce 9600 GT but crashing PC during games any solution? - 2010/02/09 00:45 I am not a gamer but a web developer and admin, as usual this card was getting loads from After Effect and similar programs with no issues in a period of six months. In the past month my friend introduce me to this game Modern Warfare 2 and some others games so I decided to join this crazy online game and I noticed this issues. This game puts more load on the card than what I do for work, so I never pushed the card to this limit. XFX said it will repair the card but am afraid that the change of fan and send it back, since I am 100% sure is not a fan issue. I have put it in a computer with the case open and still doing the same thing.

Re:GeForce 9600 GT but crashing PC during games any solution? - 2010/02/09 09:22 As I can read it your card has become unusable after a long period it has worked just fine and the load of that new game isn't really the issue, but rather something that might have been up with your graphics card before but wasn't noticeable. So if XFX is saying that you can sent the card to them for repair, what they will do is take the card and sent you a new one. If you have warranty, then just take it. Most of the time with issues related to the graphics card that come over time they can't be fixed and a replacement is the only option.

Re:GeForce 9600 GT but crashing PC during games any solution? - 2010/02/09 09:30 The only other thing I could think of is the power supply, and frankly you bought just a new one being a Cooler Master but why did you take an eXtreme Plus? Yeah, I have a doubt that these power supplies series are any better than a noname cause they give 18Amps on the 12V rails. So I am a bit reluctant that it is really any better, since a graphics card would benefit of at least 25Amps or more during peak load. Still I stand by my previous message to just get it replaced under warranty.

Re:GeForce 9600 GT but crashing PC during games any solution? - 2010/02/10 02:16 To be honest I don't know about the Amps requirements for this card or the 12V rail thing. Pardon my newbiness in this area. I did purchase it by looking at wattage versus price, and I guess I made a bad purchase then.

Re:GeForce 9600 GT but crashing PC during games any solution? - 2010/02/10 14:32 The first thing you need to know when you want to power a graphics card that is actually made for gaming is that you can provide it with the needed Amps and not really the wattage of a power supply. There are power supplies that give only 400-500W but that have a 12V rail with 30-40Amps. And sorry to say but it all turns around the Amps, cause you can get a 800W power supply but if it can give 25Amps or more on the 12V rail it is simply useless or for a computer that doesn't require to power a decent graphics card. But since you still have warranty on the card, get that done first.
