PowerColor Radeon X1650 PRO and problem since no startup? - 2009/12/02 05:11 Hello, I have a serious problem. Some time ago my video card died. It is a PowerColor Radeon X1650 PRO version having the AGP interface and 512MB memory. The behavior that it does is that when you turn the computer on, the motherboard produces sounds like when you have no system memory installed but these sounds are more. When there is no system memory, you get three little beeps but in this case they become infinite and the computer will not start and as such becomes useless.

Now I am not so sure if the Radeon X1650 was burned or could this happen? I have never flashed the BIOS but also I have searched and I could never find the original firmware. My question is if you can flash the firmware while in this state, and will it make a difference? Thank you very much for your help!

Seems you must have done something to get this graphics card to no longer work, so what did you do before the card became into that state? Cause you say some time ago the card died, so what did you do before you noticed that? Since normally hardware just doesn't get into that state without some kind of reason and we need to know before we can even somehow come up with a logic solution. And forget to always think that when a card goes bad it has something to do with BIOS cause frankly in almost all instances that is never the issue.

Re:PowerColor Radeon X1650 PRO and problem since no startup? - 2009/12/03 02:10 Well I really don't know. I have never turned off the computer, so when I wake up and moved the mouse and the state was off to this. I suppose it may be a voltage spike or burn the BIOS or something. I basically know how to get to flash the board externally. Flash on the PC power is impossible as this does not work when the card is connected. Is there any test I can do to prove that part of the board is working?

Okay, and that does give us some clue but no it can't burn the BIOS unless you got a full electric chock towards the computer and than also most of the hardware will have burned. But since you leave your computer on at all times, also during night you don't know what happenend and it could just be that the graphics card got too hot and gave up. If that is the case there is nothing that can be done. What I would try is to see if your PowerColor Radeon X1650 graphics card works in another computer? If it doesn't than don't bother as it will just be damaged and nothing will make any change.

And just so you know a standard computer should be restarted regularly and even best turned of when possible. If you are wondering why, well that is because standard computers, including laptops have hardware and especially hard drives that require that operation. If they are left on for months without a reboot or shutdown the hard drive is not used to it and can just stop responding. Only real server hard drives who need to stay up and be always available have special hardware added to prevent this behavior.

Re:PowerColor Radeon X1650 PRO and problem since no startup? - 2009/12/04 01:25 Well I install the PowerColor in another machine but make the same thing, makes again three beeps and later on two more. But the chips are hot, meaning the memory chips and the graphics processor. So what happened and what can I do?

What happened, well that is hard to tell cause you left your computer on also during night, so anything could have happened. But most likely the graphics card gotten too hot and is facing some permanent damage and since it is not even working in another system I think it is just gone. So just go out and buy a new graphics card.
