Acer Aspire One, looking for Windows XP Home install discs? - 2009/05/18 19:35 Well, although the Acer Aspire One D250 is a very nice Netbook the installation from Acer isn't just Windows XP Home edition but a lot more tools and programs I just don't need and as such is really poluting the Netbook. Now since it won't install from the normal Windows XP Home discs I have laying around does anyone have some disc that will work on it just to install the plain and simple operating system and nothing else?

Re:Acer Aspire One, looking for Windows XP Home install discs? - 2009/05/18 20:12 And just to detail what the issue is during installation, while using a Windows XP Home edition with SP3 inclusive is that I can boot from the CD and it runs through the first part until yo actually would start the installation and than it says it doesn't find the hard disk. This Aspire One D250 comes with a Hitachi 160GB hard disk, so I don't really get how it didn't find it or am I missing some drivers? If you know please let me know...

Re:Acer Aspire One, looking for Windows XP Home install discs? - 2009/05/19 02:58 Have you checked out nLite? It will let you make up a custom Windows XP install disc with what features and/or drivers you want and don't want. Which will reduce the size and installation as well as the usage of the operating system afterwards.

Nope, I didn't check that as I don't need that really. What is on the standard Windows XP Home disc is just fine for the Netbook, but Acer puts a pre-install version on the Netbook which contains too much and that is installed. So I now want to get reinstall the Netbook from scratch and I have actually an USB attached CD drive to do so. But the issue is that it can't find the hard drive so I guess I should load some driver manually first. So who can shed some light on this and share how?

Re:Acer Aspire One, looking for Windows XP Home install discs? - 2009/05/19 13:03 I have an Acer Aspire One A150 8.9inch and for Windows installation I use an USB flash drive as it's very fast. On the Netbook I now use Windows 7 on it and its really fast with it, in fact it's much more better then with Windows XP edition.

Re:Acer Aspire One, looking for Windows XP Home install discs? - 2009/05/19 13:07 If you want to install Windows from an USB CD drive you don't need any driver to be detected from the current operating system you just need to go in BIOS and set first boot device this USB CD drive and boot from it.

Re:Acer Aspire One, looking for Windows XP Home install discs? - 2009/05/19 13:37 Can you please read my initial post, as it says that I can boot from the USB drive and actually everything is loading until you need to press enter to start a fresh installation of Windows XP Home edition and just after that it says that it couldn't find the hard drive. So I have no issues with the CD as all that works, but it seems it can't find the hard drive, which is the default Hitachi 160GB hard disk that comes with default with the Aspire One D250 netbook.

So I would assume somehow some driver is missing that I might need to load manually so that it will recognize the hard drive or the chip controlling the steering of the hard drive. But I don't know cause either you all have the previous 8.9inch version or the little older Aspire One D150 netbook but not the one I have which is the ultra slim version. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re:Acer Aspire One, looking for Windows XP Home install discs? - 2009/05/19 14:10 Well did you try with other Windows disk just to see if it will detect the hard disk? Cause maybe your disk is no longer working fine and as such causing the issue of not detecting?

Re:Acer Aspire One, looking for Windows XP Home install discs? - 2009/05/19 15:22 Yes, I have tried with at least two versions of Windows XP Home edition, meaning the one with SP2 inclusive and the latest one with SP3 inclusive. So I am quite confident some kind of chipset driver is required to be loaded manually at the beginning process.

Re:Acer Aspire One, looking for Windows XP Home install discs? - 2009/05/19 15:33 Why don't you try to install it from USB flash drive? Just make a bootable USB stick with adding as such Windows XP so you can install it from that media once booted from it?
