Sapphire Radeon HD 4830 and have BIOS modification issue? - 2009/05/01 01:35 Any help will be much appreciated. I just got my Sapphire Radeon HD 4830 yesterday. I have BIOS modified and flashed several video cards before but never with WinFlash and only one ATI several years ago. I modified my BIOS after backing it up of course, and flashed using WinFlash. After rebooting my card wasn't recognized by Windows XP. Okay, reflash back to backup and all is well again. Thought I figured out my mistake tried again, still no go.

Okay, will use my handy dandy backup to change back to normal. After reflashing again card still was not recognized? Checked backup BIOS file and somehow it got changed to the same config as my modified file. Can anyone provide me with a good stock BIOS for the Sapphire Radeon HD 4830 having 512MB of GDDR3 memory and comes with HDMI connection? It also has a standard analog connector. Thanks in advance!

Re:Sapphire Radeon HD 4830 and have BIOS modification issue? - 2009/05/01 19:09 I figured out my mistake. I had read to change voltages on any clock speeds that were 575MHz. I didn't realize I had changed the voltage in 00 section that is the boot voltage and can render the card unrecognizable if changed to much. I compared my new BIOS with other Radeon HD 4830 models they all had the same values so I made them match and it's back to normal! Thanks if you were trying to help.

Re:Sapphire Radeon HD 4830 and have BIOS modification issue? - 2009/05/02 15:29 Excellent, and yes sorry but yesterday I was only in for about an hour and the rest was taken up by my girlfriend as need to spend some time with her as well especially on a public holiday. But I am glad you found out the issue and got it working again. Nicely done mate!

Re:Sapphire Radeon HD 4830 and have BIOS modification issue? - 2009/05/08 03:50 I'm back with another question about same subject. Most of my hardware is older. This Radeon HD 4830 is the only new part I have. So my experience is mostly with older hardware and NVIDIA cards. I have tried another flash attempt and this time I only changed the max overclocking value in the BIOS to 800MHz and my card was still not recognized after I flashed it. Anyone else have similar issue? I used RBEdit to edit BIOS and WinFlash per some guides I found on Google. Any help with BIOS modding the Radeon HD 4830 will be greatly appreciated.

Re:Sapphire Radeon HD 4830 and have BIOS modification issue? - 2009/05/08 09:57 But what do you want do exactly or what do you want to reach? Cause it is hard to help on something to tweak while we have no clue what the goal is. So explain your goal and than we can check what is feasible and how.

Per the guides I have seen the GPU voltage can be raised to max 1.15V in the BIOS. That will give you approx 1.2V for more overclocking headroom. Catalyst will only allow 700MHz on GPU but I have seen many people claim to get well over 700MHz especially after voltage tweak. I was trying to see if a BIOS tweak would get me closer to 800MHz before I resort to a hardware modifications. My temps are great, around 59°C max with Furmark.

With third party software I can get to about 711MHz, but any higher and it locksup, no artifacts just lockup. Is this typical ATI behavior? I also thought that since Catalyst tops out at 700MHz the drivers were causing the issue. I just don't know ATI very well, and need some more guideance.

Re:Sapphire Radeon HD 4830 and have BIOS modification issue? - 2009/05/08 21:02 Indeed ATI has build in a overclocking protection which will not allow the Catalyst control center to overclock past a certain value and that is why many just done use the control center, the Catalyst driver isn't the one blocking. And yes with RBEdit you can normally move that block up to higher values, which is what those others will have done to overclock above 700MHz.

Re:Sapphire Radeon HD 4830 and have BIOS modification issue? - 2009/05/11 14:08 So to ask a better question. Do yo think that ATIFlash will allow these changes to take effect and the card still be recognized? I have been researching more on this issue. I keep seeing more people talking about signatures and Radeo HD 4800 series. Is this part of the issue? After I flash the BIOS, remove the drivers restart then reinstall the drivers I can check hardware manager and all categories in the video device listing say no info available.

Then I get a warning from the drivers saying there was a problem with my ATI device and they didn't load properly. 'm sure I must be doing somthing wrong I just don't know what. I keep thinking it may be somthing about the card because it has the analog connector and the board design seems slightly different from the one with two DVI connectors. All the guides I've seen are for that one. Thanks for your patience.

Re:Sapphire Radeon HD 4830 and have BIOS modification issue? - 2009/05/19 13:25 Any info for this issue would be a big help. If there is better software for the Radeon HD 4000 series or if flashing from DOS will be more effective than from Windows then please give me some schooling! Thanks again.

Re:Sapphire Radeon HD 4830 and have BIOS modification issue? - 2009/05/19 16:16 Sorry to come just with some feedback, but flashing from DOS is how you should really flash a graphics card. The Windows flashing is something we try to avoid as it goes wrong in more instances than it works, and that due to Windows controlling the hardware. Whereas when using plain DOS you have full direct access to the hardware which is really required to flash hardware.
