Re:Turning a GeForce 8800 GT into a GeForce 9800 GT version? - 2008/10/20 08:26 ClowReed wrote:
That's the main cause of my testing of various GeForce 9800 BIOS's, mostly SuperClocked editions. If it's just the clocks that differs, why can't my GeForce 8800 run at that speed? This is the point. If I come to an answer or have interesting results. I post them here.
Good luck with that but really you won't find much of an answer by just trying the BIOS's as those won't make the difference in overclocking your GeForce 8800 GT more than before. The only thing feasible is to up the voltage via the BIOS to 1.10V on these cards. But what makes the GeForce 9800 GT also still being the 65nm G92 better is that the chips are newer and there is some selection done, good chips will be for the GeForce 9800 GT or GTX only. And that is just why they can overclock better in the end.

Re:Turning a GeForce 8800 GT into a GeForce 9800 GT version? - 2008/10/21 22:55 Yeah. I thinks that's the answer. I've been thinking about that and must really be this that you replied. Anyways, I've even tried a BIOS of a GeForce 8800 GTS and of a GeForce 9800 GTX but the video did go completely crazy. I've noticed that those chips run on 1.15V regarding the 1.10V max of GT version. If anyone read this and wanna try too, I don't see why be advised that you must add the forced command to flash. It would be great to turn the GeForce 8800 GT's into GeForce 9800 GTX's. Sometimes NVIDIA seems stupid, but not that much, I guess...

Re:Turning a GeForce 8800 GT into a GeForce 9800 GT version? - 2008/10/21 23:10 Well that is just a bit normal as the GeForce 8800 GTS and GeForce 9800 GXTboth have different memory chips, or at least different memory timings which will give issues on the GeForce 8800 GT version. Second they have a different voltage circuitry and that allows these to run at 1.15V. And last the G92 of the GTS and GTX do have 128 shaders, which is more than the GT version which has only 112 shaders. Again quite normal that it didn't work but, with some serious tweaking of the BIOS it would be feasible.

Re:Turning a GeForce 8800 GT into a GeForce 9800 GT version? - 2008/10/22 01:40 Yep, before the unsuccesful tweaks I greatly lowered the memory clock and set the voltage at 1.10V. But no way. If you have any idea of which serious tweaking do we need to make this possible, please put it into the table and maybe I could try and see what results we can get. Even if I could do only get into 2D with a GeForce 8800 GT modified to a GeForce 9800 GTX I would be very satisfied.

Well when I get some time I might, but currently I have more important stuff to do with the website, to get it reshaped and bringing up the income as it is going down and I need to be able to keep on paying the hosting bills, so some enhancements that I have put on hold need to get done as soon as possible.

Excellent, thanks mate. And yeah if I get some extra time in some days, weeks I will surely try to share some things. Though for now we need to get the website a bit better performing to regain or place on the market. Cause if not enough money comes in from advertising, it means not enough money to pay the hosting costs. And this is just a hobby gone above expectations so...
