Getting error 0FL01 on ASUS Radeon 9550, which can't flash? - 2008/09/04 23:32 Hello, I own an ASUS Radeon 9550 128MMB graphics card and when I try to flash the card It either can't with ATIFlash or FlashROM. I have tried to use different versions but the problem remains. I dumped the BIOS with ATITool and also backup it but RaBiT gives me error when I try to load it. The error I see on my screen is error 0FL01. I want to flash the card with the ASUS Radeon 9600 SE BIOS, can you help me? Thanks...

Re:Getting error 0FL01 on ASUS Radeon 9550, which can't flash? - 2008/09/05 03:14 As I am not to well versed with ATI cards and their BIOS, though I am working on it I would have to ask why you want to flash a different cards BIOS? Meaning a Radeon 9600 SE to your Radeon 9550, is there somthing wrong with the card? Are they the same core and memory to allow such a flash? Have you used ATITool or other utilities to check your highest stable clock speeds and tried to edit your BIOS with RaBiT, a correct version to support your generation of card? Maybe a good idea to attach both BIOS's to this thread so a more seasoned persons of ATI hardware could do a proper assessment and advise you on the correct course of action. The error may be a good thing...

Re:Getting error 0FL01 on ASUS Radeon 9550, which can't flash? - 2008/09/05 09:32 Well I read a few posts and search your error and found a post here this page in particular that states is a naming error and to get BIOS to flash it must be named correctly and then the same correct name used in the flash command. As you might know the old DOS can only use the old name convention being "8.3" format. That means maximum 8 characters for the name and maximum 3 characters for the extension. Then it is important to use a version of the flash utility to match generation period of the card. Just copy and paste the error code in the search at top hit enter, some reading available, good stuff. How to force the flash, which you better make sure the BIOS is a match...

Re:Getting error 0FL01 on ASUS Radeon 9550, which can't flash? - 2008/09/05 13:27 I want to flash BIOS with the Radeon 9600 SE just for overclock and just for fun. My card is tested with ATITrayTools for 375/550MHz so it can hold it. As I understand the problem is the ATIFlash version and the actual BIOS naming? If that is the case which ATIFlash should I use? When I try to dump BIOS then RaBiT always informs me about a CRC checksum error even when I backup BIOS through flash. I also changed ID of the new BIOS to match the old one but no succes with that too. Like it has something such as a BIOS flash lock...

Erm, the speeds were not my concern, I was more pointing at the two different core structure the Radeon 9600 core and the Radeon 9550 core if they are different the flash will render the card useless. And I would recommend editing your own BIOS and without a copy of your own BIOS and the Radeon 9600 BIOS no one can compare or test the BIOS with the versions of RaBiT available. Yes, check date of manufacture of card then what BIOS utility version of same time frame. And try also GPU-Z to backup your BIOS, also there is probably a command to unlock the BIOS if it is the case being is locked or write protected...

Re:Getting error 0FL01 on ASUS Radeon 9550, which can't flash? - 2008/09/05 17:00 Probably a command, can anyone enlighten us? The two cores are the same. The Radeon 9550 and Radeon 9600 cores are the same except the cards that have 64-bit. In my case I have a 64-bit bus but the Radeon 9600 SE also has 64-bit. Basically its a Radeon 9550 with 325MHz core an active cooling. Most of the normal Radeon 9550's with 128-bit can softmodified to Radeon 9600 PRO with no problem.

Re:Getting error 0FL01 on ASUS Radeon 9550, which can't flash? - 2008/09/05 17:23 This graphics card is locked or BIOS protected. If there is any BIOS command I can use please feel free. Thanks in advance for your help on this.

Re:Getting error 0FL01 on ASUS Radeon 9550, which can't flash? - 2008/09/05 19:57 Sorry but I have been sick the last few days and didn't really get the chance to do much. Now normally you should be able to flash the Radeon 9550 to a Radeon 9600 version, but only if you are certain they have the same memory bus wide. But I guess you have mentioned that already. So you will need a bootable DOS media and FlashROM or ATIFlash. And you will need to force the flash as it are different card versions.

FlashROM v 2.xx Commands...
"flashrom -f -p 0 newbios.rom" (Forced BIOS Flash)

ATIFlash v1.xx Commands...
"atiflash -f -p 0 newbios.rom" (Forced BIOS Flash)

Re:Getting error 0FL01 on ASUS Radeon 9550, which can't flash? - 2008/09/05 21:21 Sorry, to hear you been sick, hope all is well. Glad to see you back, been forced to do some research, and have no problem with that, just hope you don't mind my trying to help and had to finally get some more sleep myself. I wasn't aware that ATI as NVIDIA made a few different cards based on same chip, I guess it would only make sence to do so on the lower to mid-range of cards, keeping costs down some for sure...

Also, since my All-in-Wonder, of so long ago, yes last ATI card I bought new and I still have with remote. Now just acquired a Saphire Radeon HD 3870 with 512MB GDDR4 memory and so cheap, trade a copy of Call of Duty 4 from a GeForce 9600 GT for it from corporate sales manager friend. So I'm certainly gonna play with this puppy and be getting back into the ATI swing of things also. Maybe a few more show up also, put some eggs in both red and green baskets so to speak...

Thanks mate, and you have done well. I am not yet fully recovered but I am trying to get there again. Though at the same time I have become an uncle now so I have to visit a bit the new addition to the family as well. But well done to support our visitors while I wasn't up for it.
