GeForce 9600 GT 1GB board flashing with 512MB SSC speeds? - 2008/06/29 18:36 I have recently stepped-up to an EVGA e-GeForce 9600 GT 1GB from the 512MB version. I was wanting to know, since they have the same GPU and all that, the only difference is the texture memory. Can I flash the 1GB card to the speeds I had my 512MB card clocked to? I know EVGA has the nice little program. I use it to find out my max and then flash to that speed. Since I still have the BIOS file from my SSC card can I just flash the new card to that? Thanks a bunch.

Re:GeForce 9600 GT 1GB board flashing with 512MB SSC speeds? - 2008/06/29 21:12 Better to test your card to see if it run at SSC speeds then edit your original BIOS and reflash with that as unless memory chips are the same, timings etc you may have problems, and amount recognised, may be an issue. And if you haven't already done so, upload your original BIOS of your GeForce 9600 GT 1GB version so someone can do a HEX view and advise you on best course of action...

Re:GeForce 9600 GT 1GB board flashing with 512MB SSC speeds? - 2008/06/30 00:29 Well I will not have the card until tomorrow, Monday. I will upload my BIOS as always and I will ask Mavke too to see. It would just be much easier since I have the BIOS file on hand and all.

Re:GeForce 9600 GT 1GB board flashing with 512MB SSC speeds? - 2008/06/30 15:45 As always it should work, but mostly will give artifacts as the memory chips used are different. So really I wouldn't even think about it but rather just go for the well working approach and that is first to see if the 1GB version can handle the higher clock speeds and if so to tweak your own original BIOS as such.

Re:GeForce 9600 GT 1GB board flashing with 512MB SSC speeds? - 2008/06/30 22:54 Okay thanks. Turns out it did not come today. It will be here tomorrow, then I can upload the BIOS if no one else has. Stupid slow UPS...

Re:GeForce 9600 GT 1GB board flashing with 512MB SSC speeds? - 2008/07/01 10:38 Thanks for the update. And yes once you have the card just backup the BIOS and attach it on this thread and you can then best try and see how far you can overclock it before you try a BIOS flash with new clock settings.

Re:GeForce 9600 GT 1GB board flashing with 512MB SSC speeds? - 2008/07/02 01:10 I have the card now. Only problem is I am sure this is using less voltage than my GeForce 9600 GT 512MB SSC card. It runs cooler and if I try to overclock even in small amounts, like from 650/1800MHz with shader at 1625MHz, which are the stock clock speeds to 700/1900MHz with shader at 1785MHz I get freeze-up with screen made of artifacts! It does run much cooler than my SSC though even with the fan on auto. I get the same frames in Oblivion with more anti-aliasing and other details turned up at lower clocks. I will upload my BIOS also.

The BIOS version is 62.94.11.00.29 and part #01GP3-N869-AR.

Re:GeForce 9600 GT 1GB board flashing with 512MB SSC speeds? - 2008/07/03 08:51 Okay, thanks for the update and the BIOS. You will need to give me some time to check this out and since I am not home but at work that will have to wait a bit. And don't get impatience as I also have some personal life issues lately which aren't making it easy at the moment. Though as soon as can you will get some update on this and if there is some difference with voltage or whatever.

Re:GeForce 9600 GT 1GB board flashing with 512MB SSC speeds? - 2008/07/04 03:47 Cool, I have managed to get 730/1860MHz and shaders at 1825MHz.Not that great though considering I had my SSC at a permanent 810/2250MHz with shader at 1965MHz stable. I may mess around some more later. Currently building my custom liquid cooling for my CPU for less than $100. I know how those personal issues can get in the way. Hang in there, it can be rough sometimes. Oh, never mind the 1860MHz memory, back to 1800MHz. I have never had a card so overclock unfriendly...

Re:GeForce 9600 GT 1GB board flashing with 512MB SSC speeds? - 2008/07/09 22:27 Okay I have checked the BIOS, there is a bit difference which I can see which seem to be related to the memory timings and that is just normal as you have 1GB of memory. So I would just tweak the BIOS with NiBiTor and see use it as such. With less memory you can always overclock higher. Though the core should be able to do almost as good normally...
