XFX GeForce 7300 GT has a GeForce 7600 GS BIOS running? - 2008/06/17 03:04 After using NiBiTor on my PC I used it on my wife's PC for seeing her graphics card specs. She has a formerly passive cooled XFX GeForce 7300 GT 256MB version in her system where I installed a Xilence Batcooler on. She's only using for chatting with her sisters in the Philippines. So I took a look with NiBiTor and it gives a GeForce 7600 GS name in the bootup screen!

Then I used ATITool on it and upped the core from 350MHz to 500MHz and it gave no errors after a couple of hours. Is NiBiTor reading this BIOS wrong or is this a tuned down GeForce 7600 GS because they put a passive cooler on it which I replaced by the Batcooler or wath?

After doing a quick Google, the GeForce 7300 GT is in fact a G73 core, instead of a G72 like the other GeForce 7300 series cards, which means it is essentially a GeForce 7600 GT with lower clock speeds. The memory is probably different though. You may even be able to hit 560MHz, the reference speed for the GeForce 7600 GT if the cooling is good, however it may run at a lower voltage preventing you from reaching that speed, considering it needs to minimise heat output when cooled passively.

Re:XFX GeForce 7300 GT has a GeForce 7600 GS BIOS running? - 2008/06/17 05:27 Well I overclocked the card from 350/666MHz to 500MHz core and 800MHz memory and it is not making any errors with ATITool. If I go higher it starts to create artifacts. But at 500/800MHz it is going good. Best regards...

It works perfectly, the default core is now 400MHz and memory 700MHz, I know it's not a rocket, but my wife has now officially a GeForce 7600 GS in her computer.

That should also give you the required voltage to run at 560MHz which is the stock speed for the GeForce 7600 GT.

Re:XFX GeForce 7300 GT has a GeForce 7600 GS BIOS running? - 2008/06/19 08:48 The 3D voltage now is 1.1V as a GeForce 7600 GS which is the same for the GeForce 7300 GT, but in the GeForce 7600 GT it is 1.3V. Think that is not too much? Would love to give it a try, I'm curious now!

Perhaps you should try just increasing the voltage on the GeForce 7600 GS BIOS, go up in the smallest steps you need to get to 560MHz or however high you want to go.
