XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB and what BIOS to use for flash? - 2008/06/11 15:55 I have an XFX GeForce 8800 GT Alpha Dog edition with 512MB that is factory clocked at 640MHz core, 1900MHz memory and 1600MHz shader. And I want to flash it with the BIOS of another manufacturer. I have a pink screen problem, if you Google this you know what I mean and it is sure not overheating cause I have a Zalman VF1000 cooler on my card and my card reaches 57°C playing Crysis on maxed out settings for hours! Also my memory on the card has heatsinks and the Zalman also blows on them.

What BIOS from another brand can I use to flash my card, cause I think that this is a BIOS thingie, cause all the solutions people give on the web don't work, but some say if you flash your BIOS to another brand it simply does't happen anymore. Now I am willing to try that because this is a very annoying problem. I flashed in the past my old ASUS card to another brand and that one worked fine for years. Can anybody give me some advice to what brand of BIOS I can use for my XFX GeForce 8800 GT card? A big thanks in advance!

Re:XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB and what BIOS to use for flash? - 2008/06/11 20:12 Well I not going into detail about the pink screen cause we haven't seen it yet much and I frankly don't see how a BIOS lfash would make much of a difference, as from our point of view it is a problem with the hardware somehow. But to answer your question, any GeForce 8800 GT BIOS from any brand would do fine just search for one with somehow the same version number as your graphics card BIOS to have the best match.

Re:XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB and what BIOS to use for flash? - 2008/06/12 09:12 Try setting the PCI express frequency to 105MHz, that fixed this problem for one guy. If it doesn't fix the problem, put the PCI Express frequency back to 100MHz as it isn't going to improve performance in anything except 3DMark01.

Re:XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB and what BIOS to use for flash? - 2008/06/12 18:46 So Mavke, you think it is not a BIOS problem? Is it a hardware thing? Any cure for it or just take as it comes? The thing with the PCI Express frequency I already tried and does not work. If there is no cure for this then I'm gonna buy me another card, my GeForce 8800 GT is like new, only a couple of weeks old, but I cannot stand this pink screen happening when I'm in the middle of a game!

Yes I would think so, and I would simple take it back to the shop were you bought it and state that it switches to pink colors and that you tried with new VGA and DVI cable to make clear to them that you tried all you can but it just doesn't work right the card. And they should simple replace the card as a shop needs to normally give a certain warranty as well.

Re:XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB and what BIOS to use for flash? - 2008/06/12 19:32 Thanks for your quick reply! Okay, tomorrow I'm gonna take it back to the shop, as it is already evening, and it is closed now. I still have the box, so that should be no problem. Thanks again for the advice, I really appreciate it! Best regards.

Re:XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB and what BIOS to use for flash? - 2008/06/12 19:36 Good, and since it is a very new card I don't see why they wouldn't just exchange it for another as a graphics card shouldn't give issues as you described, that is just not normal. Keep us posted on how it goes. And I think we are in the same timezone actually.

Re:XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB and what BIOS to use for flash? - 2008/06/13 19:17 Hello, well I went to the shop and explained all. They gave me the choice of getting a new card, either the same or I could look in the shop if I found something to my likings. So there were three cards the same as mine and I took a PNY GeForce 8800 GT, just to be on the more safe side that it would not happen again. The card is in my PC and running nice. Now I have another question. The PNY GeForce 8800 GT is lower clocked than the Alpha Dog.

It has 600MHz core, 1800MHz memory and 1500MHz shader clock speed while the Alpha Dog had 640MHz core, 1900MHz memory and 1600MHz shader clock speed. Can I edit that using NiBiTor in my BIOS and then flash the card with the new settings in the BIOS, or should I flash it with another card's BIOS to get those same speeds again? I still have the Zalman VF1000 cooler for installing onto the card if needed if the temps would be a bit higher, or should I just stay away from flashing my card and leave it like it is?

Re:XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB and what BIOS to use for flash? - 2008/06/13 21:22 Well first you have to make a backup of the original BIOS of the PNY GeForce 8800 GT and also share that with us. Then I would first recommend to check how far yu can really overclock the GeForce 8800 GT by using ATITool and see how far you can get the core and memory speed. But watch carefully and stop as soion as you see artifact pixels. Once you have the maximum clock speed of both core and memory and let us know so we can advice what would be save overclocking setting.
