GeForce 7900 GT about flash BIOS for repairing artifacts? - 2008/06/11 14:16 Hey all, I have a MSI GeForce 7900 GT 256MB which has a lot of problems with intensive 3D applications. It always starts to block or give fractals etc. Now I have been doing some research, and it would appear so that the normal values for that card are not right, as this card would not be running on a 1.4V if I'm right. Now I wonder if that problem could be solved by flashing, and what BIOS I need to use. Maybe someone has an up-to-date version or modofied BIOS? Thanks...

Re:GeForce 7900 GT about flash BIOS for repairing artifacts? - 2008/06/11 20:03 Mmm, indeed the GeForce 7900 GT doesn't run at 1.4V, so I don't know how you checked that but all GeForce 7900 GT's only run at 1.2V and you can't increase that via tweaking the BIOS. Though you must know that the GeForce 7900 GT series have had quite some problems with bad memory cauisng artifacts and freezing of applications during 3D operation. We actually had the same issue and had to get a replacement which can fixed with better memory chips and the issue was resolved. Artifacts and fractals as you say, are the worst thing for a graphics card as that means some permanent damage is happening...

Re:GeForce 7900 GT about flash BIOS for repairing artifacts? - 2008/06/12 09:14 Yeah, blocks sounds like memory issues. If that is a factory overclocked GeForce 7900GT then you have a Pandora's Box of problems in your PC.

Well, I would state that cause a lot over factiry overclocked GeForce 7900 GT's got returned only a couple of months after they got purchased to do artifacts and it was all linked to isssue with the design and bad memory chips. And you might not know but that is exactly th ereason why NVIDIA came and released the GeForce 7950 GT, with a better layout and good mmeory chip badges and to set their image right again.

Re:GeForce 7900 GT about flash BIOS for repairing artifacts? - 2008/06/13 05:53 Well I didn't know that was the reason why the GeForce 7950 GT was released, I thought that was just another refresh like G92 is basically a refresh of G80. But I did know about the massive number of failing GeForce 7900 GT's, which is why I mentioned it.

Well nope, not a refresh really as both card are using the same G71 chipset, but just to get rid of a bad perception of the GeForce 7900 GT and by improving the voltage circuitry and the memory chips they made the GeForce 7950 GT and as such didn't have a bad perception from the start, nor to liaise back to the previous GT version. And in fact the GeForce 7950 GT was a very good card which we could do core voltage tweaks via the BIOS that really lifted the performance. So really NVIDIA did make a very good turn there.

Re:GeForce 7900 GT about flash BIOS for repairing artifacts? - 2008/06/14 03:16 Luckily I avoided all the problems with the 7900GT and got an X1950 pro instead, with its own problems My 9600GT has been running flawless though so I'm happy. I doubt I'll be upgrading for a while as I haven't been playing alot of games recently.

Any update on your problem Firewalk?
