BFG GeForce 8800 GT OC, with no boot and display outputs? - 2008/05/28 17:53 Hi, as the subject says suppose, I set everything up, turned the PC on but it doesn't turn the monitor on from power saving mode. When I turn it on the blue light is on for about 5 seconds then goes back into power saving mode. The graphics card is running as the fan can be heard at 100%. The monitor is using the VGA input, with a DVI-D option. I have read of people with the same problem but no solution comes up.

Also the machine isn't booting up as the busy light isn't flashing and no noise when it would be entering Windows Vista. I have an Arctic Cooling 700W power supply with 22Amps from the 12V rails, so it can't be the power. I am using the Packard Bell PT890-8237A motherboard, so it's in a PCI Express slot, which version I don't know but it shouldn't matter. Any ideas and I would be hugely grateful, thanks a lot.

Re:BFG GeForce 8800 GT OC, with no boot and display outputs? - 2008/05/28 19:30 Well somehow that doesn't sound strange to us, but a problem we have come across already a lot but we want to check a bit more first. Can you details what chipset is used on the mainboard? Cause there is some things that are not working so great with the GeForce 8800 GT and some chipsets. Secondly is there a way you can dump the BIOS of your BFG graphics card and share it with us?

Re:BFG GeForce 8800 GT OC, with no boot and display outputs? - 2008/05/28 21:20 Hi, thanks for offering help, sorry but what is the chipset on the motherboard? And what do you mean by dump the BIOS of my card? Im not a total noob I promise. It's hard to find out anything about my motherboard but finally came past on 3DMark06 that it's Packard Bells own cause it says Foxconn on it but they must just produce it. Well I found that the PCI Express it a version 1.0. Anything more you need ask, cheers.

Re:BFG GeForce 8800 GT OC, with no boot and display outputs? - 2008/05/28 22:05 Okay thanks, but the info given doesn't gave any details on the chipset, though I was able to find the details via Google and well your mainboard is using a VIA chipset. And the VIA chipsets are the once given this issue for a lot of GeForce 8800 GT graphics cards. We really now need your graphics card BIOS, which you can dump if you get it to work in some other computer. And really that is what you will have to do cause most likely you will need to flash your card with a newer BIOS to get it work in your PC.

This is a well know problem which has been resolved for many already, and we actually have a very long thread about that. So really go visit a friend with a computer that has a mainboard, with no VIA chipset and backup the BIOS from your card for us, and we will be able to solve your issue. We just need to check that your BIOS is one that hasn't got the fix yet for this PCI Express compatibility issue with the VIA chipset and then it is a matter of flashing a newer BIOS and it will work in your own computer.

Re:BFG GeForce 8800 GT OC, with no boot and display outputs? - 2008/05/28 23:26 Alright cool I will try and do that. But if we get the new BIOS how do we flash the card if I can't get into Windows when its in?

You never flash from within Windows for NVIDIA cards as it can screw up the flash due to Windows doing other stuff with the graphics card at the same time. So flashing you always do from a bootable DOS media using nvFlash. And you can check our guides or ask what you need in terms of NiBiTor or nvFlash usage.

Re:BFG GeForce 8800 GT OC, with no boot and display outputs? - 2008/05/30 00:54 Hey, right here is the situation. No other PC in the house has PCI Express slots, and it's actually the wrong card they gave me, its the OC in the OC2 box. So the BIOS in this card won't help as it won't be right for the OC2 when I get it will it. Where you going to adjust the BIOS or just upload an existing one that would solve the problem? If so you could send me the OC2 one which I'll use when I get the card. Otherwise we'll have to wait for the OC2 to come, and I'll have to find a friends PC to get the BIOS off. What'ss it to be? Cheers.

Re:BFG GeForce 8800 GT OC, with no boot and display outputs? - 2008/05/30 09:37 It doesn't matter what you got, being it the OC or the OC2 version, they will most likely have the same issue as both are coming with the same BIOS, just the clock speeds that have adapted. That is just how it is done, nothing more and nothing less. Now that they put the wrong card in the box is annoying so go back to the shop and get them to exchange it. On the BIOS you will need to visit a friend to get the original BIOS and than we will see what needs to be done.

Re:BFG GeForce 8800 GT OC, with no boot and display outputs? - 2008/05/30 14:34 Do you alter the BIOS yourself then? That's what the list of BIOS's is on the site? Ah that is difficult can we just assume the VIA is the problem so do what you got do to the BIOS. Can you get hold of a standard BFG GeForce 8800 GT OC BIOS to edit? I saw in the BIOS list on the site many OC versions and and O2 versions, is one of the fixes for this problem so I could use that? Cheers.

We don't alter the BIOS if not needed, all depends on what you got as BIOS on your card and if we don't get it we are not able to advance on solving the issue. All the BIOS's on our downloads section are original unaltered BIOS's that can be used if someone screwed up their BIOS and wants to reflash the original BIOS but lost it somehow. Don't use any of the BIOS's from there as you might do more damage then good. You will need to find either way a computer that can work with the card to either backup or flash the card, so really the first step is backup your original BIOS and provide it to use so we can check it out and can say for sure it can be fixed by a BIOS update of the graphics card...
