XFX GeForce 7900 GS AGP and problem for Race Driver Grid? - 2008/06/08 17:03 Was trying out the new game Race Driver Grid. Had not even played the game yet, was in the options menu configuring the controls when the screen froze. Restarted machine. The LCD has no signal and the analog monitor shows alphanumeric characters in the BIOS post screen. Does anyone please have the BIOS for the XFX GeForce 7900 GS AGP card? Big thanks.

Just one question, why do you think it is a problem with the BIOS of the GeForce 7900 GS graphics card? Sorry, but I really can't follow your logic, and actually we have seen such behavior in the past and each time we see you guys asking for the graphics card BIOS? What does go through your minds? A game does play well and freezes the PC and you all think teh BIOS got corrupted on your graphics card? Well don't think that as that can't just happen as such...

Re:XFX GeForce 7900 GS AGP and problem for Race Driver Grid? - 2008/06/09 01:06 I understand what you are saying but at the moment, that is one of three options I have. The other two is to RMA it back to XFX which would mean at least a month with the card or buying a new card, and this one is not even 7 months old yet. Its not the computer as I plugged back in my old card and got the system running again. The one chance I have to avoid the RMA is to flash the BIOS and pray that the card starts working again. Otherwise, its to pack it in a box, lose money in shipping it and waiting four weeks.

Re:XFX GeForce 7900 GS AGP and problem for Race Driver Grid? - 2008/06/09 03:55 Here is my take on the situation, feel free to disagree but I'm speaking out of personal experience. If the video card BIOS was corrupt, that would not cause a reboot. Instead, you would get either a distorted image or no image at all. Now a power supply problem would cause a reboot, my old 18A unit couldn't handle my Radeon X1950 PRO until I heavily underclocked and undervolted my CPU. Please list all of your specifications, including power supply brand and preferably also the model.

Re:XFX GeForce 7900 GS AGP and problem for Race Driver Grid? - 2008/06/09 04:01 I appreciate any comments and suggestions. I restarted the computer. The screen had become jaggered and when I restarted it, the BIOS showed the alphanumeric characters. I tried the card again today and it booted into Windows but the image is just horrible and grainy. Hard to describe it.

Re:XFX GeForce 7900 GS AGP and problem for Race Driver Grid? - 2008/06/09 05:39 You did plug in the video card power cable right? Again please list your system specifications, so we can check this further to determine the cause and actions.

Well if you want to know if it is really the BIOS, then I suggest you to make a bootable Ms DOS media, either floppy or memory stick are the easiest and use nvFlash v5.31 or maybe newer. Then start you computer from this bootable media and use nvFlash to backup the BIOS and attach the BIOS on this thread and we will check it out.

nvFlash v5.xx Commands...
"nvflash -b backup.rom" (Backup Original BIOS)

Re:XFX GeForce 7900 GS AGP and problem for Race Driver Grid? - 2008/06/10 01:55 Again just to mention that the computer will boot into Windows but just that the video display is messed up. And no longer useable as such.

Re:XFX GeForce 7900 GS AGP and problem for Race Driver Grid? - 2008/06/10 03:28 Looks like it could be bad video memory or lack of power if you didn't plug in the power cable. Could be the BIOS, but I don't see how that could cause restarts. I can't even see how bad memory would cause restarts unless the driver caused a blue screen.

Re:XFX GeForce 7900 GS AGP and problem for Race Driver Grid? - 2008/06/10 19:18 Having checked the BIOS I am not able to see anything wrong with it, it is one the newest BIOS's for this graphics card and should be just fine. We do know however that Windows Vista is not so hardware friendly with older hardware and that some GeForce 7 series cards do have problems with Vista. Now have you already tried to get the drivers uninstalled?
