GeForce 9800 GTX, about to modify and flash a BIOS on it? - 2008/04/08 11:02 Hello guys, I want to modify my GeForce 9800 GTX BIOS to higher clocks. Can anyone give me a step by step instruction and/or manual. The most important for me is which version of nvFlash I should use and the full command line including all parameters for a good flash and maybe an instruction for making a blind re-flash disk. Thanks for your help and can't wait for the answers. I am targeting 800/2400MHz with a shader clock of 2000MHz for new clocks.

A quick search on our forums on nvFlash and flashing would have given you all the information that you needed, even the way to do some blind flashing. But okay let's see what you need, first you need to create a bootable DOS media which can be either a floppy disk or USB memory stick. Then you need nvFlash v5.63, which is the latest version currently available. And then you can actually start flashing, but always make a backup of the original BIOS first and share it with us...

nvFlash v5.xx Commands...
"nvflash -5 -6 newbios.rom" (Normal BIOS Flashing)
"nvflash -4 -5 -6 newbios.rom" (Forced BIOS Flashing)

Re:GeForce 9800 GTX, about to modify and flash a BIOS on it? - 2008/06/07 09:48 I have tried both options as mentioned with the latest nvFlash and I get an EEPROM error. I ran the "-r" to remove copy protection but I get the same error. I am using the original BOS backup just upped the clock a bit using NiBiTor v4.1, what gives?

Can you tell us which card you have exactly and can you share with us your original BIOS of your graphics card? Also are you using a bootable Ms DOS media, like a floppy or USB memory stick to run nvFlash from? And what exactly does it complain about when you try the commands?

Re:GeForce 9800 GTX, about to modify and flash a BIOS on it? - 2008/06/08 03:01 It's the MSI GeForce 9600 GT 512MB, and I uploaded the BIOS yesterday for your review. I am using a boot USB stick. Does that make a difference? All the other commands work except flashing. Is MSI doing something to try and lockout these new cards? I did not write it down the error message so I will log off and try again. I don't want to hijack this thread, should I start a new post?

My mistake was there is an EEPROM on the ASUS mainboard that was showing as device 0 in the list. I just had to use the "-i1" command and it flashed. Funny thing though, the increase showed no real gains when benching. Must play around with different combos I guess.

Well indeed you should really have used your own thread, cause this is not at all related to the GeForce 9800 GTX, so if you have other stuff to talk about start your own as that would be great. So I guess you got a mainboard with an onboard graphics card, which would then indeed be the first card which you can't flash and the GeForce 9600 GT would become the second one. The GeForce 9600 GT and overclocking might not make that much difference in certain games but try also some 3DMark benchmark suites.
