VID core only showing voltage of 1 - 2005/01/02 03:53 Hey folks,

I have a Gainward 6800nu and Rivatuner only shows my VID core at 1.0V even in 3d mode. I've looked and my temps go up to 60C but have been debating trying 1.4V to get more overclock. About 375 core and 850 memory is max with soft-mod to unlock all pipes and vertex shader. Any thoughts about that VID voltage?

Re:VID core only showing voltage of 1 - 2005/01/02 04:38 Did you set up the Hardware monitor and try looking at your VID that way?

1. To set up the Hardware monitor, open RT (RivaTuner )

2. On the opening screen click Customize . . . under Target Adapter next to where the card description is.

3. Hardware Monitoring is the 5th button. Click it and a graph will appear. Most of it will be set up already but you'll most likely have to set up the VID monitor.

4. Right-click on th VID graph, then click Setup, then More, then Autoselect.

5. Play with the HW monitor buttons to see what they do. It's a great tool.

You can have it log to a file and when you exit a game double click on the file to see readings from some time ago. Only drawback is that it stops logging when the file reaches a certain size. Makes sense to do that but there should be an option to erase and start the file over .

Also, you should back up your bios, zip it, and send it to us. You can just attach it to your next post. I want to look at it and I have a feeling you're going to want to goose up some of the settings in your bios.

Re:VID core only showing voltage of 1 - 2005/01/02 09:55 In Rivatuner, its listed under VID core, non-dimensional. Is that correct? Also, i have attached the bios.

Re:VID core only showing voltage of 1 - 2005/01/02 19:20 I looked at your bios, and it shows no voltage setting.

Is this a stock bios?

Maybe you should use NiBiTor 1.9a to edit a copy of your bios and when you open your bios, just put a check in Extend Voltage Table on the voltages page and save it. Then, hopefully, your 3D will be at 1.2v.

That's better than going to 1.4v.

And remember to re-configure RT and see what VID it shows in the Hardware Monitor.

Re:VID core only showing voltage of 1 - 2005/01/03 04:27 A buddy had modded it, but now i reflashed to old bios and had rivatuner auto-detect and is showing 1.2 V. Wish there was a way to try 1.3V with nu's. 1.4 would be pushing it with stock cooling.

Re:VID core only showing voltage of 1 - 2005/01/03 05:00 Well if you try a different bios that has 1.3v in the table you can. Like a GT bios.

Just edit it first to match the way your clocks are set and set whatever voltages you want.

Re:VID core only showing voltage of 1 - 2005/01/03 05:13 Not trying to sound Newbish, is that fairly safe? I overclock most of my components but don't want a $300 paper weight. Have others generally had success in doing that? Is there a GT bios you would recommend as well.

Also, i have currently unlocked the extra pipes and vertex shader via Rivatuner. Any idea how that will effect after flashing to a GT bios?

Re:VID core only showing voltage of 1 - 2005/01/03 05:59 It should be safe, just be sure you have a backup of your original bios.

I edited a copy of the Gainward GS 6800 GT bios. I set the clocks to 325/700 for both 2D and 3D and the voltage to 1.3 for both 2D and 3D. You can also set the voltages to 1.1 or 1.4. You may want to set the 2D to 1.1. I used 1.3 because that's normal for GT's.

Use nvflash 4.42

Use the command nvflash -p -u -2 -f newbios.rom

You'll probably have to reinstall your drivers too, so be prepared.

Good luck and report back.

Hi did that give you anything in terms of performance...

I mean will it boost some memory timings and thus give you any added performance ? (at the same clockspeed offcourse.)

Re:VID core only showing voltage of 1 - 2005/01/03 06:34 The reason I did it was because Radman wanted to try 1.3v and his bios didn't have that choice.

We'll see his results if he decides to do it.
