GeForce 7600 GT, having major problem gives blank screen? - 2008/06/04 16:59 Hi all, right then I recently got a GeForce 7600 GT graphics card off a mate and I used it for a couple of weeks and all was well. Then all of a sudden while in game the screen went black. So I had to hard re-start my computer. On the restart the dreaded black screen appeared, the monitor light was only on amber and nothing was on the screen. I could hear the computer loading up.

So I put my old graphics card back in and everything worked again, so its obviously down to this new graphics card. The only difference I can think of is that I had to used a DVI to VGA adapter for the GeForce 7600 GT, but I doubt that would make any difference. Can you offer any help? Thanks.

Re:GeForce 7600 GT, having major problem gives blank screen? - 2008/06/04 18:19 Okay, just to be sure. Did anything change recently in terms of software or hardware to the computer? Cause any change might have some kind of impact, though it depends a bit. Also what power supply are you using? And would you be able to test the GeForce 7600 GT graphics card in another computer?

Re:GeForce 7600 GT, having major problem gives blank screen? - 2008/06/04 19:29 That's the problem is quite a long time ago, and I was playing with my computer a lot. Might of even reformatted my computer around the same time so not really sure to be honest. Haven't tried it on another computer yet, will do so. Could it be a malfunction of the actual graphics card though, and do you if know if it is worth trying to get it fixed?

Re:GeForce 7600 GT, having major problem gives blank screen? - 2008/06/04 19:34 It depends, cause if it works in another computer than there is not really something to be fixed and it might be due to some other change or due to degraded components which might require more juice and your power supply in that case might not be sufficient. So we want to make sure it is it the card really before we can advice much and trying in another computer will give us that feedback.

Re:GeForce 7600 GT, having major problem gives blank screen? - 2008/06/05 22:28 Okay, I haven't tried it on another computer but, I did try the graphics card one last time in my computer and it worked. So I installed all the latest drivers but on restart after the Windows loading the black screen appears! So have got some where, but still need to try it on another computer.

Good stuff mate, so that means that the card actually works as long as it get's initiated with the standard VGA driver which is embedded in Windows but as soon as you install the right drivers for it to unlock all the capabilities you get the blank screen. What I would try is using also some older drivers and see what happens.

Re:GeForce 7600 GT, having major problem gives blank screen? - 2008/06/06 00:09 Took me a while but I finally got back in to safe mode. I uninstalled all the new drivers for NVIDIA and tried to install an earlier version but an error came up on the two that I tried. The NVIDIA setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware, setup will now exit. That makes no sense to me?

Re:GeForce 7600 GT, having major problem gives blank screen? - 2008/06/06 00:31 Just to be sure, you have uninstalled the drivers in safe mode but installed the older drivers in normal mode, right? Cause don't try installing drivers in safe mode, that is just good to remove then and then you restart back in normal mode to try and install an older version. And which Windows version are you using?

Re:GeForce 7600 GT, having major problem gives blank screen? - 2008/06/06 00:35 Oh I did try and install it in safe mode. But I can't get past the loading stage in normal mode so I can't get on my computer. And the same error occurs if I try to install the drivers with my older graphics card.

Hmm, strange stuff mate. But yeah never install drivers in safe mode, well install nothing via safe mode is better to say. The safe mode should be used when you encounter issues and would like to remove something as safe mode will use the standard Windows drivers for the hardware. I would think if you can't even install the drivers for your old card that there is really something going with your operating system somehow...
