MSI GeForce 8600 GT OC edition, and some flashing errors? - 2008/05/25 14:55 I tried to get the TV-out function to work a while back but after several tries I restarted the computer ending up with a graphics error on boot. I am having a MSI GeForce 8600 GT OC version (T2D256E-OC) with 256MB of memory. Seems that somehow the card lost its BIOS data and I emailed with MSI and they sent the needed BIOS file with nvFlash v5.58 to flash it and instructions. So I tried it but it ended up at an EEPROM error unknown message every time. As I discovered on these forums nvFlash removes older EEPROM's with higher versions so I also tried several version of nvFlash but still ended up with same error message.

The EEPROM should be working as I can read it out and see the data is damaged as the information are incorrect and as I can read that the EEPROM should be okay and thus the hardware. So the problem is how to get past this issue that nvFlash gives. I hope someone might know something as I spoke with MSI about it now twice and the second time even with a nvFlash log file but up to now still nothing.

Re:MSI GeForce 8600 GT OC edition, and some flashing errors? - 2008/05/26 02:54 What is actually incorrect with the BIOS data? I checked the clock speeds and the core and memory are correct, although I'm unsure what the shader clock is meant to be. You could try erasing the EEPROM and try flashing it again afterwards, but don't reboot in between.

nvFlash v5.xx Commands...
"nvflash -eraseeeprom" (Erase BIOS Data)

Re:MSI GeForce 8600 GT OC edition, and some flashing errors? - 2008/05/26 18:58 The BIOS file that I added is the one I need to get on my graphics card. I added it for those people that would like to have the BIOS file too. The problem is that nvFlash is saying while trying to flash that the EEPROM is unknown. I am not sure if that erase command will help to let nvFlash to find the EEPROM, and I also read about the way of short circuit the BIOS chip but not sure if that might help also.

Re:MSI GeForce 8600 GT OC edition, and some flashing errors? - 2008/05/26 19:26 When we remove the log details from your post it means it is irrelevant and we know nvFlash and what it shows when you get that error so you don't need to repeat. We know what we are doing and the main thing I would like to know first is the commands that you have used to flash the BIOS on your graphics card.

Re:MSI GeForce 8600 GT OC edition, and some flashing errors? - 2008/05/26 22:18 I have used the forced commands so with the "-4" and also some other commands that I read on forums and none work as it keeps failing on the EEPROM check.

Well when you can actually dump the BIOS it means there is no issue at all with nvFlash but rather something else. And once again I want to repeat we know what the error is you are getting by repeating it over and over again you are not going to make it much clearer. Now just to be sure, can you use nvFlash and backup the actual BIOS?
