I am using an Antec NeoPower. The power supply doesn't make much of a difference since my friend's one is crashing too and he's on a much higher power supply. Also it doesn't just give me a black screen, there's a repeating sound byte as well.
If you don't want my advice than just say so... But I can give you a very heavy power supply with very high wattage and it will not be able to please a GeForce 9600 GT owner as the PCI Express power rail will just not provide enough current to run 3D games. So don't come with such feedback and keep an open mind so we check one thing at the time. Now I checked the NeoPower specs and it should be fine, though 16Amps is not a lot on the 12V rail...

Ironically I was on the EVGA forums first than someone recommend this website. I don't have a PCI Express 2.0 mainboard, only a PCI Express 1.0 and the BIOS is already the latest version.
Well that is how it goes these days, when a brand or manufacturer doesn't give enough support we see the visitors coming up on our website and we can say we have fixed a lot of issues already, but we can only help well when we have enough details. Now I also have a GeForce 9600 GT in an Intel X38 chipset based mainboard and it works flawlessly. So really we need to narrow it down and know what mainboards you guys are using and so on.

My second system I have just built with an EVGA e-GeForce 9600 GT SSC edition and a nForce 750i EVGA motherboard and the Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor and expierenced the same problems but not anymore though.
Thanks for the details, and good to see it is working and actually fixed from a mainboard perspective in your case. In the and a blank screen is almost always due to some lack of current to the graphics card somehow or due the PCI Express bus providing too less power. And one this that counts for all, the links to EVGA have been removed cause so far EVGA is not paying is for linking to their site really and they don't support us neither with review samples and we are a non profit website and don't gain anything by these links and most manufacturers are using our BIOS editor nor donating any cash to us.

Re:GeForce 9600 GT, having black screen while playing games? - 2008/05/25 17:30 My mainboard is an Intel DG33FB mainboard. It's running the latest BIOS so I can't update it anymore. Any idea where to get the latest BIOS for this graphics card? Straight off the NVIDIA site? Thanks for help in advance.

Re:GeForce 9600 GT, having black screen while playing games? - 2008/05/26 12:23 The latest BIOS for a graphics card you can only get from the brand you have bought, like EVGA, ASUS, etc. And behind the scenes NVIDIA will be working with them to provide BIOS updates, but never directly to end-users.

Re:GeForce 9600 GT, having black screen while playing games? - 2008/05/26 19:33 Thanks for the reply. I actually went to the XFX website and unfortunately they don't offer it. Any other suggestion on getting the latest BIOS?

That is normal, XFX does't offer BIOS's for download, but when you contact their technical support they quite often sent out a new BIOS when they find it required. So explain your problem clearly via email and wait for a reply.
