Trouble flashing the XFX GeForce 8800 GT to Gen1 version? - 2008/05/21 13:57 I have read all the howto's and walkthroughs on how I should flash my XFX GeForce 8800 GT card to Gen1 so it'll work on my crappy ECS mainboard. The thing is I can't find any BIOS's online that have the same device subsystem ID as my card. My card's one is 2333 and the one's I get online are all 2330, I can't set my cards own BIOS to Gen1 cause it's greyed out in NiBiTor, that's why I have to use older BIOS's from online.

Now nvFlash complains about the subsystem ID's not matching and I'm aware that you can force it to ignore that but I'm not sure if that's a good idea. Any help would be appreciated!

Re:Trouble flashing the XFX GeForce 8800 GT to Gen1 version? - 2008/05/21 16:49 A simple search on our forums would have brought you to a big thread that is all about the PCI Express compatibility and that shows you that it is a bad idea to flash to an older BIOS version that is Gen1 enabled as the newer cards and design doesn't work with that anymore as NVIDIA changed their logic. So you just go on the thread about the PCI Express compatibility of the GeForce 8800 GT and you take any BIOS that is of version 62.92.24.x or newer, meaning higher version number and you force the flash. The subsystem ID has no impact at all on the performance or the card to function properly, it is just an ID controller by the vendor and is more an internal ID for them but you can set that at whatever you want even an the card will just work.
