Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/09/13 18:47 HarFanG wrote:
Here is my original BIOS as well. Please, can you check it and put it in Gen1 mode? Or will you update NiBiTor for it, so I can do the changes by itself?
Sorry if I will sound rude now, but can't you read? The thread is all about the PCI Express issue with VIA chipsets and as I just explained some posts ago only the very first BIOS has an option to go back to Gen1, which isn't really an option any longer. To repeat again you go to our downloads section and you take a BIOS for the GeForce 8800 GT with a version number of 62.92.23x or higher and it will just work, as NVIDIA fix it via another, and yes better way without performance impact.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/09/14 05:00 Hey, can't you read too? My natural language isn't English, this means I have difficulties to understand all what you told. Hey sorry to be born in France. Anyway, now I've understand the thing about Gen1 no longer available in latest BIOS's. Can you do a last thing for me, please? Just tell me which BIOS I need to take in the downloads section, because I'm very lost in it. Thank you in advance and sorry again for the inconvenience.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/09/14 06:18 Just download a BIOS with version 62.92.23.x or higher and your problem will be fixed. Forget about Gen1 all together, that solution is no longer needed. You should find such a BIOS in the MSI section.

Sorry about that, but I am from Belgium just next to France so you think I am speaking English as my first language? No it isn't but if you at least try and work on it and read translate you would have learned a lot from this thread. So just to clear that up. You download from the downloads section, in the MSI section the lastest BIOS for your card. That is just very easy, and justto help you it is Rev.04 and has a version 62.92.23.00.21. And as you know all our BIOS's in the downloads section are original BIOS's, so that should work just fine.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/09/17 02:25 Hey there, I have had a old ECS K8T890-A motherboard, it has a PCI Express and an AGP Express slot on it. Anyway I had an XFX GeForce 8600 GT in it that worked just fine. I just bought a PNY GeForce 8800 GT and it seems I am having similiar problems to those that have posted prior in the forums. The computer posts without any video, and I can hear the machine go into Windows, but thats it.

My question is, I read here that BIOS versions above a certain one should not have this incompatibility issue, and that was several months back that this was posted. I guess my question is, after all this time is it possible that companies are still putting out the old BIOS revision cards? Am I just unlucky and got sent a card thats been sitting in the warehouse for a long time or is my problem possibly something completely else?

Anyway I am all for posting a BIOS here and maybe with some luck resolving my issue, I just wanted to get your opinion on the situation first before bugging someone to crack open their machines so I can get get a copy of my BIOS. Thanks in advance.

Who knows, could be one that has been sitting at the shop for sometime or it could well be that the BIOS was not flashing to the latest one before leaving PNY. We can't tell nor know, but it seems you have still an older BIOS on it so you really should visit a friend to know, and see what the card says.

Don't worry, I'm fine now. Was just the BIOS names which has confused me. I took the MSI BIOS with the correct version. Tried it and it works like a charm. Nnow looking for a topic talking about fan speed, because this stupid card keep the fan at 30% always, even while playing Crysis max high settings.

That is exactly what I thought, so good stuff mate and glad you got that working now with the newer BIOS version. But that is just what it takes to get the VIA chipset issue resolved and to enjoy your GeForce 8800 GT. On the fan speed we should have some topics, if not you can start one of your own.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/09/19 06:11 Yup, you deserve a huge thank you for the nice jobs you made here. This GeForce 8800 GT is an amazing card, and I believe it could be run Crysis Warhead as fine as 1st Crysis. Last word about VIA chipset, after the last BIOS flash, I tried a benchmark, and I noticed no change at all. I started Crysis after the benchmark, and I saw no changes as well. Anyway, I'm on a ride to buy a new motherbard, like the Gigabyte P31 DS3L and hope it will do the job better than the ASRock.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/09/19 21:13 Well as long as it not again a VIA chipset it should be fine really. And I would personally go for an Intel chipset, but that is just my view and I am not into SLI action, unless the new X58 will offer it, then I will be tempted.
