It didn't work and I need the Gen1 BIOS back... Damn! That's bad news for me too. I'm planning to buy an ASUS P5K-SE motherboard. What is the exact model number of yours? Apparently ASUS likes to play around with model numbers and have a bunch of different chipsets on same base numbered motherboards. The P5K-SE and plain P5K are both based on the Intel P35 chipset, though. If yours is too, I may have to look for another one. NVIDIA really should push manufacturers to update all the BIOS on the GeForce 8800 GT products and get rid of these problems...

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/04/25 18:16Hello, some days ago I bought a new GeForce 8800 GT 512MB from Club3D but now I get no signal when I start the PC. I read on these forums that I need a Gen1 BIOS. Where can I download this?

Well your post has been now linked to the correct thread, so just look on this thread some pages back and you can find some updated BIOS's with version 62.92.24.x or higher and those will make sure that your card will work just fine.

I have a Galaxy GeForce 8800 GT 512MB card and I am getting the same compatability issues with my ASRock 775Dual-VSTA motherboard. I'd flash the BIOS, but the latest BIOS for it that I can find appears to be version 62.92.16.00.05. What do I do? Flash it with a BIOS for a different manufacturers card?

As like all others you also have a VIA chipset and those ar enot following the PCI Express specifications to the letter and therefore cause issues with the PCI Express 2.0 capable graphics cards. So yes you best flash with another manufacturers BIOS, as all these BIOS's and cards are actually the same. Just use as mentioned a BIOS as of version 62.92.24.x or newer.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/05/13 10:40Well, following your instructions to the letter flashing my video card BIOS with a different manufacturers BIOS, the EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GT 512MB version posted by Madmac seems to have fried my video card. I just get random multicolored ASCII characters filling the screen. What the hell do I do now?

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/05/13 14:06I believe the memory timings are too strong on the EVGA BIOS for the Galaxy GeForce 8800 GT memory. Judging by a quick examination, the timings between Galaxy and EVGA are different, specifically tRAS meaning 22 versus 25. The other timings shouldn't matter since the other differences are higher on the EVGA BIOS than the Galaxy BIOS. Change the memory timings to match the Galaxy BIOS on the EVGA and flash again, booting using onboard graphics or PCI card, I'm willing to bet it will then work.

The difference will be that this EVGA BIOS is set to use another brand of graphics memory with different timings. And if you can't see what you are doing just prepare a blind flash media that does the automatic flashing with the original BIOS and reboot. After that try another BIOS...

Which BIOS? there's only like three in this thread people have posted that apparently work with Gen1 motherboards, one is the EVGA BIOS, one is for an overclocked and the other is for one with 1024MB memory.

I think we have a bit more if you would look for all the BIOS's, not only on this thread as most post their BIOS on the specific thread where you can share your original BIOS's and secondly you have the full downloads section that you can check also. So really there is a bit more than what you are saying and I can tell you what BIOS exactly cause if else you need to provide me your card and then I can do the work for you... And yes since you have some of the newer cards the memory brand can either be Samsung, Hynix or Qimonda, and the timings are not for all these the same.
