Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/02/22 13:40 Okay, I have received it and plugged it on a friend's mainboard. Newer than the Rev.02 on downloads section, as mine comes with BIOS version 62.92.24.00.00. As you can guess because it being newer, I'm unable to change to Gen1. Thanks for your help!

- Bus Type : PCI Express

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/02/22 21:31 Well I will have to disappoint you as currently there is no way that the new BIOS's can be changes just like that, and even we haven't been able to get it done, as NVIDIA changed the function. So you will be forced to try some of these new EVGA BIOS's which are special versions offered by NVIDIA to EVGA to be sure they don't risk any sales. And since you got the newer BIOS version are you certain it doesn't work on your mainboard?

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/02/23 02:22 Don't think it will works because I have a VIA chipset mainboard which isn't friendly with those cards. I can't do the test because I'm not at home and tried my card on my brothers computer where I got delivered. Don't wanna do 300km and see it won't work. Next time I'll come back I'll try to flash with that original BIOS and let you know. Have to wait easter guys!

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/02/23 09:59 Up to you mate, but you should come immediately with the excuse I have a VIA chipset and mainboard not being friendly with these cards. Since these cards came out a lot has changed and the new BIOS's all come from NVIDIA who is giving the first version numbers and the 62.92.24.x version is also the same for the EVGA BIOS's that have the Gen1 improved compatibility, so there is a very big chance that with the original BIOS on your card it will just work fine on your mainboard, as for EVGA those type of BIOS's work on all VIA chipsets currently.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/02/23 12:10 Okay, well you convinced me as it is indeed the same version number as with the EVGA version, so it might just have the same or very similar fix, so I will try as if. Hope it'll work.

Good, and let uw know the outcome cause then we know if this BIOS would help others as well, but somehow I suspect that it will. But I have no VIA chipset based mainboard to try out myself...

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/02/26 03:01 I am going to buy a GeForce 8800 GT and my motherboard is an ASRock P4VM900 so actually with VIA P4M900. Flash BIOS Gen2 to Gen1 is for all VIA chipsets or my chipset the VIA P4M900 an exception? The ASRock specifications say it has got one PCI Express x16 slot. Thanks and sorry my English...

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/02/26 11:15 Well, for your info, it works with my original Zotac BIOS on my 4CoreDual-SATA2 without flashing. So the new BIOS has indeed the better compatibility for the older PCI Express interface.

Well that is hard to tell but it could be as most VIA chipset have experienced the issue. But you won't need to flash with a Gen1 BIOS anymore as the latest versions of the GeForce 8800 GT BIOS's have the improved PCI Express compatibility and works just fine on VIA chipset now.

Just as I expected, the newer BIOs's for the GeForce 8800 GT which have a version number higher than 62.92.24.x should have the improved code for the PCI Express support for both the older and newer versions. Thanks for the confirmation.
