Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/02/03 11:38Blasphmy wrote: Don't you have to have it working first before you flash it? I don't know of any computers here where it will show a screen to be able to do anything on it. All the fans and such work when I hook it up, but no monitor signal. Well yes, but if you would read this thread then there is a way to get it to boot somehow and that you can then flash it afterwards. This is done by removing the power to the GeForce 8800 GT, then booting up and inserting the power afterwards. This has worked for quite some, however it is safer to flash it on a PC where the card just works...

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/02/10 12:00Hello, I got this card which isn't compatible with my mainboard wit a VIA chipset. ASUS never bothered to update the mainboard BIOS so I guess I will have to flash my graphics card. I can't seem to find a copy of this BIOS arround here. Is there a way to take a copy myself and then adjust the Gen1 option with NiBiTor? I managed to take a copy of my BIOS using nvFlash but the option to change from Gen2 to Gen1 in NiBiTor, as option is not available.

Okay, I moved your post to the thread that is all about the Gen2 en Gen1 stuff, so the best way for you to do and to find all the answers you are looking for is read this thread and you will know what to do. But to keep it short the newer BIOS's can't be changed as NVIDIA changed somethings, thought you could try to flash one of the latest EVGA BIOS's to your card which have improved Gen1 PCI Express compatibility.

So what you are saying is to download the latest EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GT BIOS to flash my ECS card. But won't I risk bricking my card that way? Which GeForce 8800 GT BIOS from EVGA is it? There are so many versions and no notes.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/02/11 14:34Sorry, but had to remove some posts that just where completelt wrong and also when I say to read this thread then I do hope that you at least take the time to do so. Now if you would have done that then you would have seen some post about the EVGA BIOS that offers the Gen1 improved PCI Express compatibility, which is version 62.92.24.00.01. So just look for the normal BIOS in the EVGA section for the GeForce 8800 GT and take the one with this version.
And about flashing it on your ECS, that shouldn't be a problem as normally all standard GeForce 8800 GT's are using the same PCB and also BIOS. It is just that EVGA is a well know NVIDIA partner and always has some edge over the competition when it goes about BIOS versions and fixes. Just try that BIOS out and I think it should fix your issues.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/02/11 19:04Sorry for the mess, I thought version 62.92.1F.00.01 was the right one. Well nevermind, my card still won't work in ASRock, so I will try the 62.92.24.00.01 and let you know if this helps.

Well nope the 62.92.1F.x is older than the 62.92.24.x, as the 3rd place in the version number is in hexadecimal actually and 24 is higher than 1F. Secondly about the 62.92.1F.x it wa snever mentioned it fixed anything about the PCI Express, but only that it has improved fan speed. The 62.92.24.x als has the improved fan speed but on top as well some extra PCI Express enhancements for Gen1 requiring mainboards.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/02/11 21:35As promised I have tried the 62.92.24.x BIOS and it really helped. The card runs now with that VIA chipset, so far so good. Thanks for all the help and assistance. Great site, great forums.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/02/22 09:49Hi all, I just bought a Zotac GeForce 8000 GT that I haven't receive yet, maybe tomorrow and as I tried to change the BIOS Gen version with the Rev.02 BIOS which is on the downloads section I saw it wasn't possible, but on the Rev.01 it was. I have a ASRock 4CoreDual so I must change the BIOS to the Gen1 to make it work with that mainboard and want to know how could I change the Gen version on it without using another brand BIOS... Thanks.
