Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/01/29 06:07 Okay, I contacted ASUS regarding my problem. They said it was easily fixed with correct Gen1 mode BIOS from the card's manufacturer. All I need now is Gainward to respond.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/01/30 05:02 No reply from Gainward yet but I tried the memory clock suggestion with the EVGA BIOS. It worked, system posted perfectly. Dropped it down to 1200MHz. There is a slightly notice in drop of the performance in Stalker compared to the card running at full clock at 4x. I am really confident Gainward should have perfectly compatible BIOS now and if I get one I will post it here.

Which EVGA BIOS did you use? Cause then I can use the same and and will try it out for my card. And then I can maybe also use my card as such until a good BIOS comes out at last, somehow...

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/01/30 14:31 I have been in contact with the European division of the Gainward support for two weeks now. While they respond fast and want to be helpful they are not willing or allowed to supply BIOS versions to customers in this case. Nevertheless it would be great if they would send you a working Gen1 BIOS. Well, hope dies last...

The one that is posted on page 22 of this thread. It's the European division of Gainward I have been trying to contact, they still have not responded to me. If there was a more local support for them that could speak English or German I would rather try them. Not good to hear they are not willing or allowed though...

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/01/31 10:37 Okay thanks, but has anyone got a working BIOS for a 256MB version of the GeForce 8800 GT with the Gen1 PCI Express support? Cause I really need that, as the card won't work with a 512MB BIOS version...

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/02/02 08:44 Hey all, at my wits end with forums searching and instructions to get my new video card to work. I uninstalled my GeForce 7800 GT and put in the new GeForce 8800 GT and rebooted. All I get is a blank monitor with no signal. I have tried everything I could think of to why its not working. I have only one PC that can see if the card is working and not broken out of the box. Is there something I am missing? Something I can try?

Yeah right, that is just the easy way of ASUS, they know dawn well that it is a problem of the mainboard and they have no idea to fix it really. And yes it is easy fixed with a Gen1 mode BIOS but those only can come from NVIDIA and NVIDIA is stating in all our discussions that they are not to blame but it is the mainboard manufacturer. Personally I wouldn't take that ASUS answer for granted at it is just the most easy answer they can give, and pointing towards the graphics card manufacturer.

And Gainward can't fix it as the only fix can come from NVIDIA, and only EVGA has gotten the best relations with NVIDIA to get special tweaked Gen1 BIOS's at the current state... So you see now what I mean, first NVIDIA is saying they are not responsible, but still if they would really want they can fix it somehow.

Well I have added your post to the correct thread, so th ebest way to do for you is the start reading this long thread and flash your card with one of these Gen1 BIOS's to see if that solmves the issue but I think that should be the isse that you are having. So try that, but make sure you first make a backup of the original BIOS and also provide us a copy.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/02/02 20:03 Don't you have to have it working first before you flash it? I don't know of any computers here where it will show a screen to be able to do anything on it. All the fans and such work when I hook it up, but no monitor signal.
