Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/01/05 16:42 Mavke wrote:
Thanks, but we can't do anything for now on this, as already mentioned this is the newer BIOS and NVIDIA is not giving any help nor releasing any newer BIOS with a PCI Express compatibility fix as they are referring to the mainboard manufacturer to fix the issue with their non standard PCI Express interface.
Finally I received a new BIOS from MSI, which is suppose to fix this compatibility issue. Unfortunately the card is still with my friend. In the meantime could you please have a look at the latest BIOS. This is dated 24th December 2007.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/01/05 21:40 I've had the same PCI Express 2.0 problem with an ASUS A8V-VM Ultra and my XFX GeForce 8800 GT Alpha Dog edition. Flashed it with an old version Gen1 I've got from the forums and it worked fine. Also tried XFX support and today got an answer asking me if my GT worked on other chipset, if it did, they would send me a BIOS fixing the VIA chipset PCI Express communication issue. I said yes and now I'm waiting for the file. As soon as I get it I'll post it here.

Which Gen1 BIOS did you get working? Cause if that worked for you then I can give it a try as well to see if I can fix mine until we get the updated new BIOS from XFX...

Thanks for the BIOS, but in order to know with these newer BIOS's if the Gen1 is set, we also need to normal Gen2 BIOS of the same date and version, which currently we don't have. And comparing it with other BIOS's for this card there are just too many changes to really know if this one has the PCI Express compatibility fix or not...

Actually, I've got a XFX GeForc 8800 GT 512MB Alpha Dog edition BIOS from the downloads section and changed it to Gen1. Mine is a 640MHz version, and the one I've flashed is a 600MHz, but it's working anyway. I've also made a backup of my own BIOS, but I can't use NiBiTor to change the Gen 1/2 option. Well, just do that and you be playing very soon, attached is the Gen1 version for the 512MB version.

Well I have the 256MB version so this doesn't seem to work at all with that BIOS. Sorry, will have to wait for XFX to provide a working BIOS...

Indeed, you will have to wait for the update from XFX, and I do hope the come with it very soon as then we can also finally start checking what has changed and see if we can reproduce it with other BIOS's.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/01/09 14:31 Okay a small update as XFX just mailed me to say they have received the BIOS files and would get back to me shortly. So keeping my hopes up to get it any day now...

Thanks for the feedback, I am also waiting for that to finally see what the changes are for getting Gen1 feature again available and working on these newer BIOS's... So when you have the BIOS shared it as soon as you can and let us know how it worked out.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/01/11 16:08 Hello here, I'm also running an ASRock 4CoreDual VSTA and bought a GeForce 8800 GT 512MB from Jetway. I tried to blind flash it, boot up with a PCI card but nothing worked. I tried to flash it on my brother's computer, but he had another VIA chip that wasn't compatible with Gen2 neither. However I think that Windows XP was actually booting on his computer, so a blind flash might have been possible.

I finally flashed it on a friend's mainboard with an Intel chipset, using the ASUS Gen1 BIOS, and everything worked fine. I overclocked it to 680/2100MHz with shader of 1750MHz easily, and I'm now getting a kewl 8900 points on 3DMark06. Anyways, here is the original Gen2 Jetway GeForce 8800 GT 512MB BIOS, if that can be of any use to you. Thanks for this great forums by the way!
