Re:Flashing a GeForce 8800M GTX, laptop running SLI configs? - 2008/05/16 09:15 John_mil wrote:
Ok! thanks for your useful explanations! What I finally need to know is does the BIOS posted by Mavke need to be changed to make the voltage effective? I mean, do I need to choose something in Exact mode like put 1.10V or 1.15V in 3D section? I hear people talking about Extra mode, but I can't acces it, is it normal? I use NiBiTor v3.9. Maybe with signed driver, I will access Extra mode?
Sorry, I am posting from a different computer. I am using NiBitor v4.0 and yes using Mavke's BIOS's you need to select 1.15V for Extra mode and save each BIOS with this new setting. I would recommend though to flash the 1.10V BIOS's and stick with them. There is another thing with 1.15V voltage, the power brick might not supply enough juice for this voltage and maybe that is why I am not seeing a big improvement in the clocks. Stability might be compromised and as I said will come back these days after some more fiddling with the system.

Re:Flashing a GeForce 8800M GTX, laptop running SLI configs? - 2008/05/16 09:44 Hehe, I don't want to break it. You're right buddy. Well, I'm stable at 700/2120MHz, and it seems to be the best I can have. I tried to with lower memory clock and higher GPU clock, like 740/2000MHz but it always crashes. So I tried to just overclock the GPU and 700MHz is the highest to be stable, even with the default memory clock. I will try to change the BIOS's with NiBiTor v4.0, because with my version, I am only able to change the 3D mode, and not the Extra. It could be the reason... Also, the command finally worked with nvFlash v5.57.

Re:Flashing a GeForce 8800M GTX, laptop running SLI configs? - 2008/05/16 12:38 As mentioned clearly in the posts I have made, the BIOS's are modified to enabled the extra voltage levels so that you can select which one you want to use. And no we will not just make a BIOS with 1.05V, 1.10V and 1.15V cause the last BIOS has all the voltages enabled so you can select it yourself and than you save the BIOS. And only change the Extra mode, and you should be able to change it with NiBiTor v3.9 just fine even in Windows Vista, so it might just be a problem on your system.

Re:Flashing a GeForce 8800M GTX, laptop running SLI configs? - 2008/05/17 01:09 This in unbelievable that you can play stable 766/2100MHz, I just can play stable at 690/2040MHz via nTune, or via BIOS whatever the voltage 1.10V or 1.15V. Maybe you're X9000 is making a good job for support the GPU in hot screen. My tiny T9300 seems to be tired when gaming. Maybe the OS play an important role when overclocking? Or the driver?

I also would like to overclock via RivaTuner, but as I use Windows Vista 64-bit, there is no fucking signed driver for the GeForce 8800M GTX. At least I just don't find it. Whatever, I can't ask my laptop to be as performing as a desktop. What do you think guys? I think you have been lucky to get a such resisting SLI?

Re:Flashing a GeForce 8800M GTX, laptop running SLI configs? - 2008/05/17 02:51 Remember that all cards are different, just becaause someone can hit 800MHz stable doesn't guarantee you will be able to push a single MHz out of yours. They are only guaranteed to run at stock, so anything else is a bonus. Also RivaTuner has signed drivers now.

Re:Flashing a GeForce 8800M GTX, laptop running SLI configs? - 2008/05/17 03:00 Yes, I know each card is different, but they have standards, and more than 100MHz is a huge difference. It shocked me! By the way, what do you mean with RivaTuner has signed driver? RivaTuner needs signed driver to work, and signed driver for SLI mode of the GeForce 8800M GTX for Vista 64-bit seems to not existing yet. I don't really get the point with RivaTuner, and I am using the latest version, namely RivaTuner v2.09.

Re:Flashing a GeForce 8800M GTX, laptop running SLI configs? - 2008/05/17 05:14 When we talk about RivaTuner or NiBiTor earlier needing signed drivers that has nothing to do with the ForceWare drivers. RivaTuner has it's own driver which communicates with the hardware, and that needs to be digitally signed by Microsoft, meaning Microsoft wants money. RivaTuner has had signed drivers for a while now. The program itself may not be compatible with your card though.

I think you are mixing up RivaTuner and NiBiTor really as RivaTuner just works fine and has driver signing all working okay as I am also running on my system Windows Vista. Though NiBiTor doesn't have that as we don't like to pay Microsoft for something that should just work without having to pay for it. Unless you want to pay for us this driver signing stuff we are not going to make a change since the appreciation received for our free development of NiBiTor is just too low since you all just take for granted that such a program is easy and should juist be free. Well I can tell you figuring it all out and making this program is taking a lot of time and effort... So be lucky it is free, as we can just as easy pull the plug and stop any development.

Re:Flashing a GeForce 8800M GTX, laptop running SLI configs? - 2008/05/20 03:44 I agree with John, one thing is run benchmark and another is running games without crashes. I am a gamer and for me 680MHz core and 1960MHz memory is very stable in any application plus 1.05V on my card just run a lot cooler than 1.10V. I don't want to break my card in 3 or 6 months.

Well said mate, and indeed 680MHz for a mobile graphics card is not really bad and even quite okay and it is better to no overheat it as it is more expensive to replace it when it goes bad. So yes, keeping a save margin is a very good idea in the long run.
