XFX GeForce 9800 GX2, and strange blinking and flashing? - 2008/05/13 02:40 Good day, I have an XFX GeForce 9800 GX2 video card that when running any games, it is covered by a massive blinking and/or flashing problem. What I have as system is build on an ASUS Striker II Extreme with latest official BIOS with 2GB DDR3 memory and Intel Core 2 Quad Q6500 processor and running Windows XP Home SP3.

So far I have tried several things, among using a different monitor which could raise the refresh from 60Hz to 75Hz, several beta drivers, recording the problem with Fraps, new power supply namely a Thermaltake 1200W and even a fresh install of Windows XP. The only way I can get it to work is by disabling multi-GPU to single GPU, which kinda sucks.

Re:XFX GeForce 9800 GX2, and strange blinking and flashing? - 2008/05/13 04:03 If it isn't being recorded by Fraps, it should not be a fault of the card as Fraps record what the card outputs, not necessarily what you see on the monitor. However the connector between the two cards may be faulty and that's why it only happens in multi-GPU mode. Strange, though maybe RMA?

I know I should RMA it, but a few other forums have had the same problem, disabling multi-GPU and it's working. So it gives me the feeling if I do RMA it, it might do it again on the next one.

And when you disable multi-GPU it disables one of the cards, I haven't ran 3DMark yet, but I heard it does lower the score pretty big. I will see if I can run it without the screen blowing to pieces.

Re:XFX GeForce 9800 GX2, and strange blinking and flashing? - 2008/05/13 15:28 Mmm, and I have to state that I have no issues with my Gainward GeForce 9800 GX2 and an ASUS mainboard so I don't think you can just link it to that. What I would think it could be is the actual chipset that is used on the mainboard as that could maybe have issues with the GX2. So can you check that? And no need to run 3DMark with multi-GPU disabled as that will give much lower scores and be performing like a single GeForce 8800 GTS, though lower clocked.
