GeForce 8800 GTX, with SLI though different BIOS version? - 2008/05/12 18:44 I have two GeForce 8800 GTX cards in SLI with different BIOS, so would it make any difference to there performance in SLI mode if I flashed them to the same BIOS? If so which BIOS would be best. Just for info the NVIDIA OEM model runs cooler and quieter. Thanks in advance.

GeForce 8800 GTX BIOS Versions...
- Version : 60.80.13.00.00
- Version : 60.80.0B.00.04

Re:GeForce 8800 GTX, with SLI though different BIOS version? - 2008/05/13 09:38 Hey mate, well the best for SLI is that you have on both cards the same BIOS as that way SLI works best. Now if that has still a lot of impact on the performance, I doubt it a bit but it should be better for the stability. On the previous series NVIDIA cards it was best to have both cards with the same BIOS and there was some performance gain if that was the case.

Re:GeForce 8800 GTX, with SLI though different BIOS version? - 2008/05/13 19:00 Thank you for the reply, but could you suggest which BIOS I should flash them to, the ASUS or OEM or something completely different?

Well in this case since you have two cards with different BIOS's it is best to flash to the latest and newest version of the cards you have meaning that you first try flashing to the version 60.80.13.00.00, which is newer than the other BIOS.

Re:GeForce 8800 GTX, with SLI though different BIOS version? - 2008/05/29 02:17 I have same problems as well but if got a new BIOS just do not know how to apply it. I have a GeForce 8800 GTX OC version and not working right at all so l looked at the BIOS on the cards and these are not the same at all. So any help in getting a BIOS on my card?

First a warning, as you posted twice the same message but one on this thread and started one of you own. It is one way or the other as we don't like duplicates. Next time not only will the thread be removed but also your login. On the flashing of the GeForce 8800 series it is plain and sample as we explained already a million times and nothing is really changing. You make a bootable DOS media, floppy or USB stick and use nvFlash and you boot the PC from that media.

nvFlash v5.xx Commands...
"nvflash -5 -6 -i0 newbios.rom" (Normal BIOS Flash Card #1)
"nvflash -5 -6 -i1 newbios.rom" (Normal BIOS Flash Card #2)
"nvflash -4 -5 -6 -i0 newbios.rom" (Forced BIOS Flash Card #1)
"nvflash -4 -5 -6 -i1 newbios.rom" (Forced BIOS Flash Card #2)

Re:GeForce 8800 GTX, with SLI though different BIOS version? - 2008/05/30 00:12 Okay, I think that's a bit harsh, you think I'm new here and I did not know the 2nd the nvFlash. Do you put the two files of nvFlash on the USB stick and the BIOS update for the card? Is that what you are saying? As its not booting of it at all and I do not use a floppy drive and the are pretty much out dated I did not think I needed one.

Harsh or not, this is not the playground and a quality forums which we like to keep as such. Everyone doing as you did got the same warning and that is how we can keep this professional forum on track and how we want it. If that doesn't please you then you can play somewhere else. And sorry if that sounds hard, cause most likely it is. But we are not like any other forum around, and we care about quality over quantity and really helping our visitors instead of just chatting around fixing nothing at all or just give info as you think it is without really knowing. And this approach has helped a lot of our visitors so far, way more than on other forums...

So what you need to, and by all means I still have a floppy though I never use it neither as I am now using an USB memory stick and my mainboard BIOS is setup to boot first from USB stick, though if not present it will skip that. When you Google around there is a tool from HP to format an USB stick to be bootable. And yes you put all the files included in nvFlash and the BIOS you want to flash on it. Then you start from the USB stick and use the commands as provided that should than flash each of your cards.
