Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/03/22 18:35Mavke wrote: Having checked the BIOS and going from our experience, we would have to say the following based on that your card comes with a BIOS having version 62.92.24.x that the PCI Express issue should be fixed in that BIOS and the ASUS P5K comes with an Intel P35 chipset it therefore hasn't got a problem as such with the PCI Express. So what I would do is first try the card in another PC, or take it back as being faulty... I tried in three different systems and all came out the same, so I'm afraid like you said the card is faulty, sending it back after the weekend. Thanks.

Howeveer I would just try it out and see what it gives, cause it could indeed be that this BIOS would fix it as well. If not, than you will have to go for one of those that are as of 62.92.24.x or newer. Just to update, the 62.92.23.x BIOS that I uploaded earlier now allows my card to work on the ASRock 775Dual-VSTA board. Haven't tested much else yet but I'm in Windows with the NVIDIA drivers installed. Not to benchmark. Here is the original BIOS, which I pulled from the card just in case you don't already have it. Thanks again for all your help. Crossing fingers for benchmarks now! MSI GeForce 8800 GT 512MB OC Edition - Memory : 512MB - Bus Type : PCI Express

The only hope is Palit make their own BIOS that can fix this problem or lower the memory clock. Maybe you won't believe it, but still at this point I do think it is not only the Gen1 alone that is playing with you as the Palit card is just a reference like any other brand and the other brands BIOS should just work. I do think that for some reason about the lower clocks it is also something with the Palit card that is not 100% as it should be. And in my case I would return the card and ask a replacement. Yes, it worked in another PC but that might be due to that PC giving just that little extra that errors out the behavior of your card...

Thanks. That ia exactly what I would do as well, sent it back and get a replacement or return to the shop where you bought it and exchange it for a new one. There is certainly something wrong it with.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/03/23 13:21Is for example the ASUS GeForce 8800 GT 1GB a reference card? Or is it more like the Gainward or VVikoo that is reference? For flashing onto a TwinTech GeForce 8800 GT 1GB version as I would like to test something before shipping of for RMA. I would like to play around with the card before shipping it off for RMA.

None are reference cards... Why? Well NVIDIA did never make a 1GB version and will not make one neither, and that is why none of these are reference card but all have doneit their own way to get 1GB of memory on their card. So whatever you try maybe some BIOS's will work and others might not, but we can't tell really as each brand has their own way of working for these non reference cards.

Well, it's my 2nd card after RMA, and it have same errors on both of them. Palit it's not reference design card like ASUS, it has 3-phase design like the GTS. And yesterday I tried new drivers, the ForceWare 174.53, this time it give me blue screens with infinite looping error.

And still that has nothing to do with the PCI Express stuff but could be something with the card or even worse something with your mainboard or any other part this is somehow failing a tiny bit and once the graphics card is taking more power it starts to show it's failure. So at this moment really to discuss more you will need to make your own thread as no longer related to this one.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/03/26 01:08Thanks, for the help, folks. MSI declined to provide the Gen1 BIOS, though the early ASUS Gen1 BIOS let me boot and I was able to set the MSI clocks with NiBiTor. They said the PCI Express Gen2 card as is which can not be change by just flashing the BIOS on the card. Verify the PCI Express slot on the mainboard with another known working video card since the problem might be caused by the defective PCI Express interface.
Also, verify the MSI video card into another known working system and/or PC with known working PCI Express slot as well to determine the root cause of the problem. If the MSI card is defective then please refer to our website for manufacturer warranty request for the video card.

Well MSI sent me a version that worked with the GeForce 8800 GT OC edition card, and I think it's the same as yours. I posted it above in this thread. It's version 62.92.23.x which increases the PCI Express compatability with my ASRock 775Dual-VSTA board, but actually for all VIA chipsets. Good luck.
