Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2007/11/12 23:08 [HP] wrote:
I will, thanks. By the way, got one question, does this switching to Gen1 thing, slow down the GeForce 8800 GT, compared to run it on the original BIOS that comes with the card?
No it shouldn't really slow down, but might just a slightly bit slower with very large textures maybe to get the data over the PCI Express interface. But I don't think you will even notice that with any current nor upcoming DirectX 10 games.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2007/11/13 00:40 Okay, thanks Mavke! I wonder when and if BFG will release any Gen1 BIOS's for it's product, so I don't need to have other manufactures BIOS's.

Well I don't think many manufacturers will bring out one, but since ASUS has an impact on ASRock (which is the low-end ASUS brand) they done what they could to help their customers. Some thing somehow with EVGA they want to sell and if that means making sure it works everywhere they made the Gen1 BIOS as well available. So we are looking into this so that you can change it yourself with NiBiTor.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2007/11/14 12:45 Okay, and does anyone knows if XFX has a Gen1 BIOS for their GeForce 8800 GT graphics card? Cause I would be interested in that one...

Not that I am aware of currently... But if you need that you are best to contact their customer support as they might have one, but only providing it on request.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2007/11/15 09:44 I seem to have the same issue as many of the other users here, where my GeForce 8800 GT doesn't post. I have been using a very ghetto workaround by booting from a second video card and then disabling it in Windows, once in Windows I can then use my GeForce 8800 GT. My main question though was if I flash my GeForce 8800 GT with the ASUS BIOS will it keep its same clock settings, 650/1900MHz memory, or will it change them to the stock ASUS clocks?

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2007/11/15 10:20 Well, first make a backup of your original BIOS and add it to this thread. We are almost ready to release a new version of NiBiTor with the special feature for the PCI Express compatibility... So maybe wait a bit and then you can just change as well your own BIOS. If you use the ASUS BIOS it will be running at the stock ASUS clocks as that is set in the BIOS.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2007/11/15 13:49 Thanks for the input! That program sounds nice, what is the estimated time till its gonna be out and available?

The program itself is already out, with all features except the PCI Express compatibility item which is currently being added and tests ongoing. So we would assume that it will be done shortly and update will be provided.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2007/11/16 23:06 Hy everybody, I have an Abit AX8 v2.0 motherboard, with the latest BIOS avaiable on the Abit website, but when I insert the Gainward GeForce 8800 GT the system won't boot, and the post code gives me 26 that is related to the video card, I assume I have the same problem as the one described in this tread. I would like to ask 2 questions, is there any BIOS available for the Gainward card that I could flash using another PC? Can anybody confirm me full of compatibility of GeForce 8800 GT with an ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard? Thank you in advance.
