If I use a BIOS file from the Extreme or XXX version of the GTX is it likely that my card would overheat easily?

Make sure when you flash the BIOS that you don't flash the BIOS of the PCI card. If it's an ATI card there shouldn't be a problem, but if you use an NVIDIA based PCI card you'll need to pick the correct adapter to flash or you'll have two dead cards. Luckily there are ways around that too.

It already seemed hot to the touch, but never had overheat issues. So I guess when using pre-overclocked version BIOS's it will just become more hot...

Remember that your card is a real power hog and it will always run relatively hot with the stock cooler. I assure you that unless you increase the voltage you won't see more than a couple of degrees increase in temperature as a worst case scenario, and that's with a big overclock.

Well that won't make much difference cause if the card is not getting recognized by nvFlash your only option is to try with a different mainboard and see if that one can recognize it. As I said some mainboard are better at that than others, so visit some friends. And before you try any other BIOS's that are of pre-overclocked card first try to overclock via software to the same speeds and check if the card can take it.

My computer would not even start with it plugged in, even if there's a primary PCI card installed and the BIOS setup is configured to initialize PEG after PCI. If the card is placed on PCI Express slot 2, nvFlash would not recognize it. Damn, I guess I had enough of the GeForce 8800 series.

If all else fails, create a file called "autoexec.bat" on the disk you have nvFlash on it and put the below command line into the file.
"nvflash.exe -4 -5 -6 -a -y filename.rom"

After that reboot your PC with that disk in. Make sure you are booting from the floppy first. I suggest you remove your PCI card when you do this just in case. Give it a minute or two to make sure it's done and reboot again.

Don't blaim this on the GeForce 8800 series, as quite frankly you are the one that made the mess. If you would have asked before you tried that MVStrap thing we would all have said it would do no good. Now is the computer booting but you don't anything or it is just doing nothing at all? Secondly you should read what I write, try it in another computer also...

I'll try it anyway, since it's one reasonable solution. Thanks!
