I noticed when reading them through GPU-Z that the first BIOS ending .09 only has the core clock, memory clock and GPU temp in sensors tab. And the BIOS ending .10 has the above plus the PCB temp, fan speed and fan speed percentage. So the 2nd BIOS on the card is controlling the fan speed by the look of things.
That could certainly be as the GeForce 9800 GX2 has just one fan, which is not like the old GeForce 7950 GX2 in the past that has two coolers and each BIOS had control over one fan. So that could be but there is still much to find out on these specifics of the two GX2 BIOS's of these cards.

Re:NVIDIA BIOS Editor (NiBiTor) v4.0 software your feedback? - 2008/04/22 16:01 hi, i'm new in this forum, i hope that i do not anythig wrong..... i will be very happy if someone can help me, i have a notebook asus g1s with an nVidia 8600mGT board, i would to increase the termal throttling level because the card slowdown when it reaches about 96° C. but if i open the VGA bios with NiBiTor in the temp tab the throttling temperature level is unactive and i cannot mod it..... i send you my vga bios, can you add support for this feature in this bios type to next version of NiBiTor?? Many tanks!!!!

Thanks for this mate, I am adding this to the things to do for the next version. And this should be easy to put in, so we will see to get that added.

Re:NVIDIA BIOS Editor (NiBiTor) v4.0 software your feedback? - 2008/05/02 08:27 I'm not sure if this has already been discussed as I just joined these forums, but there is a serious problem with NVIDIA's GeForce 9800 series cards where when the GPU temp reaches over 60°C, the fan speed slows down to around 36% automatically. RivaTuner and other utilities that supposedly let you control the speed of the fan don't work unfortunately because even when you manually set the fan speed to 100%, when the GPU reaches 60°C, fan speed drops to 36% again.

My question is, will NiBiTor able to do anything about this? I've never used this utility before and I'm currently not home so I can't install and test it but any feedback is appreciated. NVIDIA recently acknowledged the fan speed issue and they say they have been working on a solution but everything is moving very slow. How much time do they really need to find the line of code that controls the fan speed setting and change a few things? It's very frustrating...

I just checked the GeForce 9 series BIOS's thread and I see that you already posted a BIOS for the EVGA e-GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB which is what I have, so I'm looking forward to any insight you might have regarding this issue and a possible fix through a BIOS or driver update before I go under the hood and do a dirty hack to manually control the fan speed through a controller or set it to 100% at all times or something equivalent. Thanks in advance!

Re:NVIDIA BIOS Editor (NiBiTor) v4.0 software your feedback? - 2008/05/02 09:24 This is not an issue isolated to the GeForce 9800 series. My GeForce 9600 GT does the exact same thing. So if I set it to 100%, when the GPU goes over 60°C, it will drop to around 37%, but as the temp continues to rise, it will go up slowly. Fortunately for me, the G94 is a very cool GPU and the temp never gets over 60°C unless I run ATITool artifact scanner or something, so I run a constant 35%.

For me at least, it is an issue with the threshold that triggers the fan to increase in speed. At under 60°C, the fan speed never changes from a constant 35% unless I change it manually. At 61°C the fan speed throttling is triggered, and the driver takes over control. I need to verify this, but if I remember correctly, once the temp drops below 60°C again, the fan can be reconfigured manually.

Re:NVIDIA BIOS Editor (NiBiTor) v4.0 software your feedback? - 2008/05/28 19:22 Thanks for sharing this, and we will see if we can provide you access to the fan speed option in the GeForce 9 series BIOS's so that you can change the different parameters. Though it will need to be in a next version as we didn't have the time yet to checkit out...
