ASUS Striker Extreme, an nForce 680i SLI and ESA support? - 2008/03/22 11:11 Just wondering if the Striker Extreme (nForce 680i SLI) made by ASUS supports ESA? Do you have any idea? Or do you know? Thanks...

Re:ASUS Striker Extreme, an nForce 680i SLI and ESA support? - 2008/03/22 22:37 I found this on the NVIDIA website. Just need to be sure cause I'm going to buy ESA chasis and cater cooling from Thermaltake, help me. NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI media and communications processors (MCP's) are designed for extreme overclocking. With 3-Way SLI technology, advanced overclocking capabilities, and support for ESA, the NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI is the foundation for the definitive enthusiast platform.

Re:ASUS Striker Extreme, an nForce 680i SLI and ESA support? - 2008/03/23 12:24 At least the chipset from NVIDIA supports it so why would AUS then nibble on the features on what should be their most feature rich mainboard series, the Strike Extreme? I would think it is supported and even more...

Re:ASUS Striker Extreme, an nForce 680i SLI and ESA support? - 2008/03/23 13:43 Thanks and one more thing. In the NVIDIA control panel I have some disabled options, see the image and I am just wondering if that is normal for a nForce 680i chipset?

Good question, but I don't know as I don't have such a board. So can anyone who has the same mainboard check this and get back to us? That would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re:ASUS Striker Extreme, an nForce 680i SLI and ESA support? - 2008/03/25 11:25 Hi again... Just received this email from ASUS support. Does that mean the Striker don't support it? Or I need three USB ports to support it? See answer frrom the ASUS technical support.

Firstly, ESA is a certification which is related to a whole system. As a mainboard vendor, ASUS don't provide the related certification. NVIDIA chipsets such as the nForce 650i, 680i, 750i, 780i, 780a and 790i all support ESA, which means the you can build a ESA system based on these platform.
Otherwise, to setup an ESA system, the mainboard need to reserve headers to support three USB ports for ESA power, ESA cooler and ESA chassis. For display card, you could select display cards which support 2-Way or 3-Way SLI. Below is the ESA website, just for your reference. I hope it's helpful.

That is what I would make out of the message as well, that is that you need three USB ports to connect the different ESA items for monitoring and so on.

Re:ASUS Striker Extreme, an nForce 680i SLI and ESA support? - 2008/03/25 16:35 so the striker is supporting the ESA
