It arrived yesterday! l just picked it up, and I'm just waiting to get home so I can start testing it. I also received the Arctic Cooling MX-2 syringes. Do you think I should change the card default thermal paste? I still haven't got the Akimbo cooler. Anyways, all hail video cards.

And if it's normal, is it a safe temperature? Wow, after installing RivaTuner and setting the fan speed to 80%, temps reduced drastically. Now I get 64ºC maximum after playing Crysis some time, and it gets to 42ºC in idle.
And you know what's better? I can barely hear it! I swear, subjective tests suggest that decibels are the same as with its default 29% speed setting. Totally amazing. I must let you know I first updated the BIOS with EVGA the latest official 62.92.24.00.01 version, which didn't seem to improve the fan speed settings. While playing Crysis before setting 80% with RivaTuner, the fan speed was always 29%. Anyways, I'm just so happy!

But yes testing with RivaTuner should be done first to find the settings you can live with. But what you are stating is no surprise and no longer amazing, and already been known for some time and that is why that feature is also available in NiBiTor for tweaking the BIOS.

Right now, I have an EVGA e-GeForce 8800GT 512 MB running at these speeds with the Akimbo cooler, and the latest Akimbo BIOS. Which means it runs at 704MHz core and 2000MHz memory with a shader of 1920MHz. With RivaTuner, if I set the fan speed to 72%, noise levels are more or less the same as with 32%, and temperatures after three hours of stable, artifacts free playing of Crysis is just 64ºC.
While I'm not experiencing any issue, I'm quite concerned about the shader clock. So, my question is, do you think it is too high? Do you know more or less a safe value? I plan on having my card for at least two years... Thanks in advance.

Well the sahder is indeed quite high at 1920MHz but the G92 is better designed to handle very high shader clock speed so if your card runs fine and stable with that quite low temp you stated it should all be just fine for the years to come.

I thought that, well, yeah, while temperatures had a big roll on this, there was something else going on, like a limit right inside the chip or something like that.
If temperatures it's all about, I wouldn't care to set the fan to 100% while playing. What do you recommend me to test for artifacts and instability? You go with 3DMark06 or ATITool? Thank you!

Yeah I never go with just one piece of software and I would also add a game into it as well, something like Crysis. Never trust just one tool, but ATITool will generally start artifacting sooner than a benchmark or games...

I'm able to run my card without artifacting, after four straight hours of Crysis and eight hours of ATITool, with the speeds set at 736/2048MHz and the shader at 1920MHz. Temperatures are pretty much the same as the ones I mentioned some posts before. What I liked about this overclocking experience is that I got an average of 6 frames more for Crysis.
Thank you for your comments and suggestions! I'm using Arctic Cooling MX-2 on the card, by the way, and if the results are the same as in my CPU, than the Tuniq TX-2 works better for me, meaning one, or even two degrees better. Whenever I have time and I'm in the mood, I'll switch them.
