Memory for Gigabyte X38 DS5 mainboard running at 1066MHz? - 2008/03/19 20:39 Hi to all of you, I want to ask what memory to use for my PC. I have a Gigabyte X38 DS5 mainboard, an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor, Gainward GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB and for memory I am using Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500 2GB (1GB, x2). I want to run my memory at 1066MHz but not in overclock mode. Do you have any suggestions to chance them or buy another kit of the Crucial?

Re:Memory for Gigabyte X38 DS5 mainboard running at 1066MHz? - 2008/03/20 18:59 Might just be me but you got 1066MHz memory so why do you ask to change the memory? I don't get why you can't run it at 1066MHz, cause you can set the memory normally at that speed without overclocking the whole computer... But maybe you can clarify what you really mean?

Re:Memory for Gigabyte X38 DS5 mainboard running at 1066MHz? - 2008/03/21 17:35 I don't know if the memory I am using is good or I can get better memory what MHz I am now I think the timings are not good. The Everest tool reports as DDR2-800 and that it runs at 800MHz. Sorry for before but I am not good with English language.

Re:Memory for Gigabyte X38 DS5 mainboard running at 1066MHz? - 2008/03/21 18:42 I don't understand it, have you got now PC2-8500 memory or just plain and simple PC2-6400? Cause really you need to look what is written on the memory stick to be sure what it is. So can you do that and not play with any software, cause if the memory is PC2-8500 then you don't need new memory, and you will just to set the correct option in the mainboard BIOS to operate at 1066MHz...

Re:Memory for Gigabyte X38 DS5 mainboard running at 1066MHz? - 2008/03/22 18:40 Having checked the memory modules it is written on those the serial numbel of Crucial and this points as being a Ballistix memory kit with PC2-8500 specifications. So what can I do?

Good, well this memory kit is designed to run at 1066MHz so you don't need any other kit or any other memory it is now just a matter of configuring the settings in the mainboard BIOS. You check the manual of the mainboard and you check how to configure the memory speed settings, nothing more and certainly nothing less. Plain and simple configuration that needs to be done.
