BFG GeForce 6600 GT OC edition, and going from PC to Mac? - 2008/03/17 02:26 Hi, I have a PC that just crapped out on me and I have an Apple PowerMac G5 1.8GHz that uses AGP video card. My question is that I want to know if I can use this BFG GeForce 6600 GT OC edition card that I have in my Mac or not. It would be a good upgrade for that machine. If not be default is there a BIOS flash that could make it compatible? I'm kind of a newbie when it comes to video card related stuff so please go easy. Thanks!

Re:BFG GeForce 6600 GT OC edition, and going from PC to Mac? - 2008/03/17 19:05 Well for the PowerMac G5 I wouldn't know really all depends a bit if these are already the Mac's that feature normal PC hardware or not, like an Intel processor? Cause if not than it requires more than just a BIOS change to run on such a Mac.

Re:BFG GeForce 6600 GT OC edition, and going from PC to Mac? - 2008/03/18 01:02 Well I put it in today, and the system would not boot. The system is a PowerMac G5, not a Mac Pro which means Intel machine. I know that there was a GeForce 6600 AGP as well as PCI Express card made for the G5's about 3 years ago when this card is from and I had figured maybe it would work. BFG support said it would not work when I emailed them, but I thought that if I could flash the BIOS and/or firmware somehow it may.

Re:BFG GeForce 6600 GT OC edition, and going from PC to Mac? - 2008/03/18 19:36 Okay, so that means if it is not an Intel based machine you will not be able use standard PC graphics card on your PowerMac as extra hardware is required to let it run. That is also why special Mac edition graphics card have been made of the popular graphics chips. But in this case BFG is right there is no way to get a standard card working on a PowerMac.
