Problems with GeForce 8800 GT, strange PC startup issues? - 2008/03/08 13:32
Hello everyone, I have recently been having a problem that seemed to occur after replacing my GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB with the GeForce 8800 GT 512MB. When starting up the PC, I get all the fans, drives, and lights working, but I don't get a signal on my monitor. I have to press the reset button a few times before the BIOS screen would come up, with the following message displayed at boot. Warning, now system is in safe mode. Please re-setting CPU frequency in the CMOS setup.
From my understanding, such a message is displayed when an aggressive overclock does not allow the PC to post, and the motherboard resets the FSB to its default value. To clarify, this problem only occurs when I switch on the PC from off. If I reboot the PC, the problem doesn't come up. I have tried updating the motherboard's BIOS to the latest version, but it hasn't worked. Once the PC is booted, I have no problems whatsoever, even when playing games. So I doubt it is a power supply issue.
When I first bought and used the GeForce 8800 GT, it would boot up with no problems whatsoever. Now, it seems that each time I switch off the PC, it takes more and more pressing of the reset button to allow a signal to be displayed on the monitor. It started off with one press of the reset button, and then a signal would appear. Now a signal appears after pressing the reset button seven times or so. I have decided not to switch off my PC for the time being, but for me, this is not a very feasible solution in the long run.
The only thing that I can think of that I have done to the GeForce 8800 GT is flashed the BIOS to up core voltage to 1.10V. I only apply very moderate overclocks of 700/1800MHz with a shader at 1750MHz, and I have the Thermaltake DuOrb when playing games, and I have no CPU or FSB overclocks. Thanks for reading the post guys. Any ideas as to what may be causing this? I sincerely appreciate any help!
