Have nearly the same question for the GeForce 8800 Ultra and GeForce 8800 GT, although I do not think it will work as those two have different chipsets meaning G80 and G92, and will it still work? I have read before that it needs same GPU, so G92 in this case and same memory, but that clock speed does not have to be the same. In example, it will down clock the faster card to the other card. However, there might be some software driver limiting this. You may have to rebrand the GeForce 8800 GT to the GTS, but as said the GTS has more stream processors and it has higher clock speeds. It also has two more capacitors, so it might have a better longtivity for higher clocks due to this factor.
