GeForce 8600 GT, how force boot from DVI with 2 monitors? - 2008/03/02 14:51 Hi, hope you can help. I have just built a new PC with an XFX GeForce 8600 GT card. During the build I had a monitor attached to the VGA port. The build went fine. I then reconfigured in Windows XP to have my Dell 2407 monitor on the DVI as primary and an old Iiyama CRT monitor as secondary in Dualview. Again this is all fine. My problem is when I boot with both cables connected, VGA and DVI the PC always tries to display the post startup info on the VGA port not the DVI.

Most of the time this monitor is off so I don't see anything until Windows loads. If I disconnect the VGA cable the post displays on the DVI. I want both cables connected but the post to appear on the DVI. Can anyone help? The mainboard is an ASUS P5K-E/Wifi AP and I have tried various options in the mainboard BIOS but nothing seems relevant or makes any difference. Thanks...

Re:GeForce 8600 GT, how force boot from DVI with 2 monitors? - 2008/03/03 19:57 A very good question, but I am not able to help as I have only one LCD monitor and I know I saw this about over a year ago as well when I had two monitors, one with DVI and other just VGA and had a similar issue. However I don't recall at all if I had a solution as shortly after I just went out to buy a 30" LCD screen...

Re:GeForce 8600 GT, how force boot from DVI with 2 monitors? - 2008/03/04 23:50 Thanks for the reply. I've still to find a solution. To be honest I'm not that happy with the card in general. The quality of the text is not as good as the ATI card on my old system. The Dell 2407 looks spectacular when driven well. Also I have a Hauppauge TV card from my old system which worked well on my ATI but when the TV window is placed on the secondary display using the GeForce 8600 GT it displays a black box on the primary display occasionally. I think I'll try a different driver but failing that I'll swap it for something like the ATI Radeon X1950. Thanks...

Re:GeForce 8600 GT, how force boot from DVI with 2 monitors? - 2008/03/05 22:17 Well on the image quality I would really need to contradict that as on my Dell 30" LCD display the GeForce 8800 series are giving a bit better 2D image quality than with a Radeon HD 3850... But yeah it might be a bit different in your case.
